AMD FX-6300 or FX-4350

So i need help chossing between the two,
the 6300 has six cores but runs at 3.5ghz whereas the 4350 is a quad core and runs at around 4.0 ghz
which one should i go for? and how many cores is recommended for gaming?

6300 is a hex-core (6) not (8)

and 6300 runs @ 4.1Ghz (Turbo)

If you want gaming CPU that is AMD, go for 8320 or 8350 and a decent 990FX Motherboard.

The FX-6300 would be a bit of a better choice. It performs a bit better and has a slightly better price-to-performance ratio. Also, it has six cores, not eight.

Most games only use 2 or 3 cores. You'd most likely be fine with the 4350. What's more important for gaming is your graphics card. Both CPUs are pretty worthless without a good card to back them up.

FX4 only performs around that of a low-tier Intel i3
It's ok for a really tight budget but going below 6300 would be a big mistake.

if you dont have the mobo yet, go with a pentium g to match amd quads, or i3 to match the fx 6000s

And im looking to spend around £350 - £500 ($600-$857) for the whole pc.

BF3/4 are not greatly demanding on the CPU.

There are plenty of games out there (even older) that are much more demanding then Battlefield series. BF games u can run 6300 no problem with a mid-range GPU and get away just fine, but alot of other games will demand alot more.

I'm not good with finding affordable+quality cases among what is available in UK, so feel free to change that. With an OS no way you going below £500-600 range. You will be getting complete junk for under that price range. As with AMD, CPU and Board will even out to about the same as going Intel, so might as well go Intel.

BF4 cpu is no biggie in single player but for multi get at least the FX6300/8320.
