Computer shuts down automatically when I turn on Hyper-V for windows 8.
I turned on Hyper-V because I really have fps issues when I play. turning it on seems to fix it but after I have dota on for a while the computer just shuts down. What do I do to fix this.

Are you trying to run DOTA via Virtual Machine?
I am confused as to why you'd have Hyper-V on. It is merely a means of running Virtual Machine within Win8. It shouldn't be running if u aren't using it.

but dota runs very smoothly when I have it on
Which makes no sense at all since having Hyper-V enabled could easily eat up CPU cycles, RAM, and HDD space. In an of itself however doesn't really eat up anything, as it is just another service running in Windows, until u actually set it up and make a Virtual Machine. If not using it for the purpose of running a VM, then it's pointless to even have enabled at all.

Could u post your full system hardware specs plz.
And this is DOTA2, correct?

You should have a Virtualization option in your BIOS; make sure that is Enabled.
And set Power Profile to High Performance in Windows Control Panel > Power Options

As far as issues with DOTA2, try changing/lowering in-game settings to those which may help overall performance of the game.

if its shutting down, it could be due to overheating
first gen i3 is an older notebook
try cleaning it, and make sure the fans are still working
