Recording SNES on PC
Ok, so in the front of my PC, I have the A-V plug ins (red/yellow/white) and was wondering if I could use them in some way to record/play an SNES or any console with A-V plug ins on my computer without having to use a capture card. Is this possible?

I would wager the RCA jacks are for output and not input so the answer would be no.

Playing SNES or any other console on PC is really easy, google emulators.
Yeah like he said emulators. Hell I have a ton of snes games on my phone lol.
use a screen recording program and snes emulator
fraps and zsnes work together

The plugs say A/V In, so my guess is that they are probably for input.

OP its quite possible, its gonna be costly though. first you need a capture card unless your card or motherboard has a HDMI in you're screwed. then you need software so you can display that capture cards video in real time on your screen as you record it. From there you need a RCA splitter which converts to HDMI or of course just a good old fashioned recorder box with all the hook up ports ready.

here is how i would do it.

RCA to HDMI converter---------Attached to capture card---------Boot up console on regular TV and turn on the software for the capture.

your white and red ports are for analog audio and the yellow video port is typically output only.

How much would the capture card cost and which one is the best? Couldn't I just get a roxio or something and not worry about the RCA to HDMI splitter or my AV in ports?

you need a capture card that supports the conversion of Analog to digital conversion on the fly, and im not exactly sure the card but im hunting. RCA as in red yellow and white cables which would hook into the splitter box, for which you would then plug into the capture card via the HDMI

best i can find so far, i use a professional one myself (But mine starts at 500$)

Thanks! But for now, that is a bit pricey. I was hoping I could use a program or something to utilize those av-in ports. As for one more question, what are those for, the AV-In ports on my PC.
if you want to record off the snes hardware
you can get a usb composite capture device

quality will be low, but it will work

if the pc is fast enough, just use the emulator and fraps

Yeah it's fast enough for that, but I'd rather use the SNES console than ROMS. Also I found this thread as it's kind of helping me, but the usb compostive capture device is still something I'll have in mind of this doesn't work. http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Audio-Video-Monitors/Front-A-V-in/td-p/140042

Would this one be out of the question? I have a $10 amazon gift card lying around and would prefer to use that up.

that would work too

comes with an older ver or ulead recording softwre, but should be fine
What os do you use as that one you linked to is not compatible with Windows 64 bit.
Make sure anything like that u buy has a driver for your OS version / type.
Alot of older hardware like that do not support 64bit OS.

I use Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit, so it won't work apparently.
