Optical or laser mouse?
I don't have a mouse pad(can't fit one on table) and surface is a wooden table which is not that smooth.
Currently I have a wireless optical mouse and it's VERY unprecise, it doesn't go in a straight line and any FPS game is unplayable. My last one was laser and it worked fine.
I was thinking about getting Steelseries Sensei Raw which is a laser mouse.

i user a laser mouse if the desk or table is not smooth do what i did use off cuts of laminate flooring works a treat :)
Optical mouse pretty much needs mouse pad to work properly, laser is much more forgiving when it comes to surfaces.

Yeah, say you have a sleek-surfaced mouse pad with a design on it; that will definitely mess with an optical mouse.

I use an optical mouse on a desktop surface and have no issues. Logitech MX 518.

early optical mice was unrealible on most serface i had a early microsoft one and it was terrible off the mouse mat but as rotNdude the logitch mx 518 was proberly the ebst optical mouse made Even worked on my black marbal kichen serface which my naga epic cant do!

the sensai raw is a really nice mouse tbh you wont go wrong with it
No wireless for gaming purposes... get a weaved mouse cable.

Highly recommend:

Logitech G500 or Razer Deathadder. Both palm grip. Lazer point. Weight is excellent. Accuracy is great. Comfort is extremely high for hours of gaming on end. Features have what you need but nothing you don't. Built to last 8 years+ (still going strong).

Logitech MX 518 is the best optical by far, the G500 is a recreation of it with lazer.

Use a Razor Goliathus (control or speed edition, depending on your gaming style) mouse pad to go with it. This will turn slow palm grip movements into faster claw-like speed, with pin point accuracy. Overall great for gaming as well as general work use.

You will never in a lifetime see a pro gamer with wireless, ask yourself why? As for that mouse, it actually offers a plugable optional cable.

Deathadder is optical and razer stuff is overpriced and breaks fast.

That's what I've heard, but my Naga and Orochi(travel mouse) has been going strong for just under 2 years.
I do personally like laser ones.. It depends on if you like to use a cover on your table or not. Just pick the one fits you best, ask in a local store to check out how it works on surface.
Try the Tt esports level 10 M gaming mouse it's laser and adjustable to suit the hand and with DPI from 800-7850 with heaps of programable buttons and lights can be changed as well.
Laser would be the best choice overall. That should be fairly obvious.
However if your surface area is not smooth, flat, even; then u will want a surface pad for that. However this is also a fairly personal choice, some like the rubberized bottom pads with the cloth surface and others prefer the super-smooth hard-finished surface pads.

As far a what mouse, well too many out there, but a good programmable mouse with many buttons and available DPI settings is only as good as the software. So for that I would choose Logitech. They also have very good warranty/support.
I just bought a Logitech G700, can be wired or wireless. Rechargeable and a good feel to it, and enough programmable buttons for my liking.
