However, xbox gamepad usually has the best compatibility. Especially if you plan to play games from other store fronts (epic, gog, amazon, gamepass, etc.) or some older games on steam. I currently play old Final Fantasy 13 trilogy and Xbox controller is the only one I have that works out of the box.
nothing is better then Xbot for PC gaming.....there the only controllers fully supported.....
There's no substitute for waiting for an in-depth review, but from the manual, it looks like the Steam HORIPAD will emulate an Xbox controller with a wired connection but not a wireless one. It seems like the wireless mode is specifically targeted at Steam Deck/Linux use.
It also has some additional buttons that the Xbox lacks.
The Xbox controller is going to have the better analog triggers as the Horipad controller has a very short pull range.
Personally, I would prefer the DualSense over either, but you'd have to deal with Xbox button prompts in most games. And the controller needs to be recharged frequently.
I use gyro on all first person shooters. It makes it much easier to aim.
A controller for FPS types, wow... I can't never get used to it. But if it's flying or driving sure then I jump over to controller
