According to PCWorld Magazine apps like Steam doesn't work on the new Windows 11 24H2 update and you can't download games anymore. Anyone updated yet? What's your experience?

All good.
ai response
If you're having issues with apps like Steam on Windows 11 24H2, it could be due to a number of reasons, including:
Compatibility
Some software may not be compatible with the update. Windows scans for incompatibilities before updating, but some issues may still arise. You can wait for the software developers to release updates that address the issues.
Easy Anti-Cheat drivers
If you're using Easy Anti-Cheat drivers released before April 2024, your device may not be able to install Windows 11 24H2. You can try updating your games to see if a compatible version of Easy Anti-Cheat is included.
Task Manager bug
A visual glitch in the Task Manager may cause it to show zero apps and processes running. However, the Task Manager should still be able to show all running programs, apps, and processes.
Microsoft is working on fixes for some of these issues, and they may be added to future updates.

First redo any Driver that's having issues, then do a Steam Repair if needed. What helps is if you would wipe your drivers before installing the update. We've been over this every single time a WinOS Feature Update Build comes out.

Don't listen to anymore PC magazine junk. In 2024 they are all as useless as Tom's Hardware Guides. They are mad because for years they losing customers and readers so they hype up total BS just like 'fake news' social media ads do

Maybe there is 1 in a million machines that is incompatible with the new Windows update on Win11.

But if it was an actual issue you'd see a large amount of topics on these forums.

after a major windows update, it always replaces drivers with generic ones
get the correct ones from the mobo mfg site and amd/intel/nvidia

23H2 offloads the AI running on Microsofts servers and has it running on your pc. They saved hundreds of millions in power bills with 23H2. It is always listening and why the laptops with it now that are unplugged have their batteries go dead so quick. I have to physically solder a kill switch on my laptop now to kill power to keep it from draining my battery.

no it does not
learn how the ai works before speculating anything about it
ai uses data from all available sources, how can it do this on users pc with limited internet bandwidth?

and exactly how or where would you put the 'kill switch'?
many laptops do not have removable battery
just shutting down, without using sleep/standby/hibernate would be better options and not require any hardware mods

I've had issues with 24H2, but not this.

My issue is to do with right click menus taking too long to load when they previously were snappy. Power Button menu in Start Menu is the worst offender here, takes too long to load.

Another pronlem is apparently a design "feature". Microsoft decided to remove the ability for users to customise Action Centre, some of you will notice the pencil is no longer there. So you are stuck with "flight mode", "accessibly", "night mode" buttons regardless if you want them or not.

I think I'm one of those people lol. I've reinstalled Windows, installed Steam alone to rule out cross service incompatibility, floated hardware, tried compatibility mode, no browser, -vgui, everything. Rolling back to 23H2 to see if this is the cause. Issue I'm having is a steamwebhelper not responding error on boot.

Latest Nvidia driver with a 50 series GPU living life on the edge.
