OLED monitors are bad for reading text?
Anyone has an OLED? Can you read microsoft excel, word, PDF and web browser text properly?

There are 2 version QD-OLED and WOLED.

Not true at all, how good of text clarity a display typically has comes down to the individual model and not because of the panel type itself

OLED panels are bad for their lifespan as they use organic components which are prone to degradation, which can't be fully prevented, only delayed. They do look absolutely amazing though, and they have instant response times.

Sometimes you may have to run Windows ClearType and go through that to make general OS text more clear. The text in general should be fine for most users. If not try setting a Preset within the Monitor you can easily switch to if needed for "reading" mode. One where the Brightness and Contrast have been lowered so the screen is much easier on your eyes when viewing documents and generally reading website that tend to have bight white backgrounds.

guide here
https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/80598-turn-off-cleartype-windows-10-a.html

winkey + r -> cttune.exe
first page, untick
next page, yes (all moniotrs)
next page, change monitors to native res
next page, left box (of 2)
next page, top center box (of 6)
next page, left box (of 3)
next page, top center box (of 6 again)
next page, top right box (of 6 again)
next page, next
last page, finish

its never truly off for win 7+, but thats going to change the sub pixel order correctly for most lcd/oled panels

if the monitor or its panel are upsidedown or sideways ymmv
i have seen a few displays/tvs with the panel mounted the wrong way, and its main board compensate for it

Yes it is true.

Install something called MacType and then find the specific sub-pixel layout that matches your monitor. You should be able to find examples on the internet. and find one that is good for the particular layout the monitor uses.

It doesn't cure the problem in all apps but it will in the ones that use Windows for fonts.

Please note, though, that it won't work if you use dual monitors, because of course they may have two different sub-pixel layouts.

Microsoft has been really slow addressing this problem.

You can use a dark background and then change the opacity of text so it is still visible but doesn't put too much wear on the screen

Edit: I have an oled, but I use a second monitor for using text for any extended period of time. Usually my oled monitor is off or I am refreshing it before power down usually every 4 hours. So I often don't even have my oled on....and I think it's been about 3 years or so and I haven't noticed any burn in. It's a qd-oled

Jesus ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Christ.
Imagine jumping trough dozens of hoops so your display which cost ya 4-figures does not burn in.....
But hey, the black is MUCH MUCH blacker on OLED. It's worth the hassle.

OLED is like cosmetic surgery. Where are not there yet.

Well considering every major smartphone of the past several years has an OLED screen, and reading text is just fine there. I would think so. I've read whole novels on my phone comfortably.

I haven't noticed any issues reading text on my Steam Deck OLED either.

What gave you the suspicion that reading text on an OLED display would be problematic?

phones and deck are set to the correct led color order for pixels

windows does sub pixel rendering, [g,r,b][b,r,b]
for a white pixel next to black, [G,R,B][g,r,b]
if the white is shifted off by 1/3, it would do this [g,R,B][G,r,b]
or by another 1/3, [g,r,B][G,R,b]

but oled are not ordered the same way, or if the monitors panel is flipped upsidedown, it would not show correctly

oled panels are often [r,b] and g under them
a line shifted off 1/3 or 2/3 would not draw correctly on it
on oled it would look like a blue pixel, next to yellow (red+green), not a white dot

wow..you are so far off with that comment its due to the ultra small pixels everything is
sharper on any tiny screen because of this :steamfacepalm:
