Dual Monitor blackscreens AMD Driver Timeout Issues
Recently bought a MSI G274QPF 1440p 180Hz monitor and I wanted to compare my other MSI G271 1080p 144Hz monitor so I have a dual setup right now plugged into a basic power strip and I faced an issue when I was playing two 4k videos to compare the monitors it froze then both black screens then back to normal but got a AMD Drive Timeout didnt think of much so I restarted my PC but same thing kept on happening and when I went to go run Black Ops 6 on my main 1080p monitor was fine then when I switch over the 1440p monitor the issue happens and the game crashes so I switched my powerstrip to a Belkin 12-Outlet Power Strip and the issues was gone for a while went to go play BO6 and Battlefield 2042 then the issue came back again for some reason. This hasnt happened before when I borrowed my friend's ASUS VG27AQ1A monitor but for some reason its happening with this 1440p monitor. I would go back using a single monitor but any suggestion I should be checking out? Don't have any GPU OC settings on everything on default.

Specs -
MSI B550 Gaming Edge WIFI
Ryzen 7 5800X3D
Red Devil RX6800XT both plugged with separate PCIE Cables
2x16GB GSkill 3600Mhz Ram
Corsair CX650M 650W Bronze PSU

Usually, black screens are caused by monitor cables. Are you sure that the cables you are using are certified to work at the data rates you are using?
I had static buildup that caused this issue long ago, so don't rule that out either; although, I have only seen it on ASUS and ACER monitors but anything is possible).

do you get the monitors logo when they turn back on?
or input osd info
if not, it can also be bad backlight led, use the monitors osd menu and turn down backlight brightness to 75% and see if it happens less often

static should not be a problem, the hdmi cable shield is ground along with several pins from the connector
unless the cable is complete garbage

when at the quest finding my Black screen, i saw many dual monitor problems, usually they fixed by not using different cables, not using hmdi to Dp, or DP to hdmi, or any adapter, and buying good DP cable, or good HDMI cable, and disable hibernate/sleep mode

no just regular blackscreen then back to normal

How exactly can this be a monitor issue, when his GPU driver is crashing constantly?
C'mon guys......

Was thinking that i might be gpu drivers but amd hasnt release a new updste since October lol. I’ll try tomorrow to again to see with the 1440p one by itself if it does cause an issues. Not sure why i didnt encounter the problem when i borrowed my friends monitor

When i had blackscreens it was a cable that wasnt plugged it fully. My pc case blocked the cable from going in all the way. Had to unscrew the gpu, push it down very slightly which moved the video port and it was enough.

And how exactly does a monitor cable which isn't fully plugged in cause the GPu driver to crash?
The thing with my issue for the same ASUS model monitor (and another person who tried the trick as well on the ACER brand) was that our issue was not from a crashing of the GPU because the monitor would go black but you could still hear game music hence the game never crashed and the static buildup simply turned the monitor off/disabled the monitor (this also at times accompanied black screen flickering which is also seen on bad cables) - perhaps I didn't read about any GPU crash and only read about the 1440p monitor going black screen. :badluck:

how can GPU crash, if it worked flawelessly before

Did they update Windows at all (normally excluding Security Updates) - is the question.

windows update often messes up drivers
reinstall all the drivers from the mobo mfg site and amd/nvidia/intel

Might be a windows update but not sure if there was a windows update for me recently. I’ll double check today maybe try a different cable who knows but this might be seem to be a gpu issue. Would DDU help the issue for it? I also gotta replace the monitor too got like two dead pixels on it unfortunately
