CPU upgrade when?

Hey there!

I have an Ryzen 9 5900x.

I haven’t been up to date on parts lately.

Curious to know are there any worthwhile CPU upgrades that does both Gaming and Workstation?

Or not worth upgrading just yet?

If you do more than gaming, do NOT get any x3D series Ryzen processor - thank me later but you are looking at an entirely new system on AM5 or even AM6 as that R9 5900x is good for about another 3/4 years; although, you have some factors to consider, especially if you do animation.

Yeah, I do more than Gaming like Music Production with heavy loads of plugins, Photoshop and such.

The next move is AM5 or AM6 and the upgrade from R9 5900x to 5950x is too small.

Personally, I get away with using Ableton Live 11 on this R7 1800x without worries so take that into consideration, I also use UE5 - I have been eyeballing the R9 5950x but know I should wait a bit more time for upgrading to either AM5 or AM6.

Hoping they've fixed the core parking you mean... 7950x3d was a terrible choice unless you did a lot of gaming on top of requiring the extra cores for work.

Also, you need to tick the "remember this is a game" in gamebar, cos some games dont enable it by default.

The problem with x3d is it's much more expensive than the non x3d equivalent, while providing lil to no benefit in productivity. So if op uses his pc mainly for work, the non x3d 9950x will be the better choice.

I might as well move over to intel for that reason.

there is no valid reason to buy intel at this point.....the memory is not worth holding on to with the gains DDR5 gives you......DO NOT WASTE MONEY ON INTEL.....
