I ended up getting an External Drive at 5tb that fits well with the larger games i don't want to download from Steam. I get roughly 100mb a second transfer rates when swapping between games i want to play, so i can copy paste and go smoke a cig or something and come back to it done.
I wouldn't settle for another 1tb.
its easy to add storage, just make sure its compatible with the board
if the board has another nvme slot, make sure to get an nvme drive
if its m.2 sata or sata get that
*be aware, most boards disable some sata ports when using m.2 nvme or m.2 sata slots
use filters here to find what you want, and select country at the top right

For what exactly?
On my main machine (dual boot, windows linux) - not very much.
256 Gb nvme x2 for boot drives.
1/2 TB nmve nvme for games cache.
1Tb sata SSD for local backups/storage.
Anything at all important is on a NAS (truenas) - 16TB - games, media & general fiel server.
Keeping anything important on your manin PC is likley a bad idea, especially if accessed through windows using the really awful ntfs.
would love to say 8tb but sadly prices for those m.2 still a bit steap.
1tb really don't cut it anymory
so I'd say :
0.5 TB : windows, programs & drivers install folder
4TB games install folder
you might want an external drive for storage of your photo's text document, downloaded movies, games (and mods) etc. so you can reinstall them even if no longer online.
(but from experiences 20gb is plenty for that.. so an 512gb usb or 1tb extrenal ssd in a housing does fine storing your most vital data. ofcourse you do want two of those.. always keep a backup...
(personally I have a classic HD in my system (first line of backup)
than a personal nas... (second line of backup)
than an usb stick (third line of backup)
and finally some burned dvdrom (fourth line of backup)
now I have split it...
1tb windows & office instalation only.. about halffull..
4tb gamedisk alongside it has a little over 2.4tb full.. leaving me some room to expand..
my most sensitive data is less than 10GB in size.. with all my mp3 and gamefiles (instalation files for mods, hotfixes etc backups for if they ever get taken offline) added 20GB..
and with my downloaded movies collection added I maybe need 500GB
and there is storage creep.. like I not install anything new.. and hundreds of gb disapear.. to windows and steam game updates,. not sure if this is due steam not clearing out the old files when it updats a game.. or they just adding that much.. but the creep is real.. like 20gb every week just evaporates without new installs..
