Whys my moms laptop minecraft better then my gaming pc??

So i spend ALL my bday money over one hundred dolars on this "gaming pc" I found on facebook market place with mom and it minecrafts at like 40fps!!! But my moms old laptop (she only uses it for facebook and shopping) runs it FINE even with shaders on.

I got a AMD radeion card or sumthing, 4GB RAM (thats a lot rite?), and a cpu that says "Athlon " which i thot was the best becuz athlon sounds fancy. My friend says i need RTX but why does minecraft need like NASA computer to play block game now?!

Is this bcuz game companys r greedy or did facebook rip me off? Also my rgb keyboard lights r so bright they hurt my eyeballs. Help pls 😡

Go look on eBay.

They said they spent "over $100". Not sure how much more, but that makes it sound far closer to $100 than $200, so let's say it was probably around ~$120 or $130 maybe? I'm seeing 8th generation Core i5s, 16 GB RAM, and 256 GB SSD (or 1 TB HDD) OptiPlexes all day in that exact price range.

Are they great? No (and I'd particularly avoid the first two since anything older than the 8th generation should no longer be bought IMO), but $100 simply only goes so far. That might only get you stuff "on the doorstep of e-waste tier" but that's still better than "actually obsolete tier" like they have.

Put the rest towards towards any old 256 GB+ SATA SSD and an cheap GPU (like a $30 GTX 1050 or so) and it'll at least be usable to some extent, for around the same price. Maybe it comes out around $150 with shipping so maybe it's a bit more than whatever "over $100" was, but still... they overpaid and badly.

Either this uncle didn't know what they were doing, or (and I hope this is just my imagination running wild) they gave their nephew or niece the cheapest thing around and pocketed the difference. Even if it wasn't malicious intent, then they chose badly because that same money can get something way, way better, so I still think the uncle should reimburse their birthday money, or otherwise buy/give them something that amount of money can truly get you.

I don't know why that 40FPS sounds familiar, much like my experience with the Ryzen 5 3500U. There are also "modern" mobile Athlons with zen 1 and zen 2 architecture (series 3000 and 7000 Gold/Silver).
If it's one of them, I can't be surprised that the world generation is killing the performance.

btw for $100-150 there will always be second hand Thinkpads that come with 8-9 year old processors that will perform well for minecraft. Even if it is with i3 it will be somewhat good, but there are also with i5s which are higher clocked.

While there are some Athlons still being made they are not the original ones from the early 2000's when we had the Athlon x2's.

I bought on ebay a used business PC this week to use as a Linux box to try gaming on linux. I live in the UK. The PC cost me 39 pounds delivered.

It had an Intel I3 @ some crappy low clock count so i bought a 3rd gen Intel I5 @ 3.9 Ghz for 7 pounds. Seven pounds for a really good CPU in that socket. 1155. This CPU was a few hundred pounds not that long ago. If i spent 20 or 30 pounds i could get an I7 class CPU that would reach the bottom list of what is todays hardware. And that from last gen hardware on a business class computer made in 2013.

Computers are like leggo. You slap them together and apply an operating system. Figure out how the game of leggo goes and you can build your own systems for REALLY CHEAP.

Really cheap if you use last gen hardware and are not fussy about frame rates on modern games. Turn down the eye candy and last gen hardware will play todays games no problem.

Its all about eye candy. How much do you want?

I used one of my old GTX 1060 6 GB's in that build. I am happy with it. Over the moon. I played Limbo today on it. And that was before i slapped in the GPU

We are on DDR5 now so that stuff is slow. Like molasses. Like a bad dream you cant run away from the swamp monster coming out of the water for you kind of slow, slow.

I had a Phenom II. 865 if i remember rightly. Served me well. The biggest improvement i saw over the last 20 years in computing was from IDE drives to SATA. That was a huge step up in performance. IDE's were so damn slow.

i had a 1600 cl7 kit
near equiv to 3200 cl14 or 6400 cl28 which you would never see timings that low on

find me a ddr5 kit less than 8ns
