Upgrade PC Before Tariffs or Wait It Out?
Do you guys think that the incoming tariffs will significantly raise the price of PC components? Will they all be affected similarly, or will certain parts be affected more than others?

Currently I'm running a R7 3700X and it is fine. Works admirably but I do recognize that it is aging and I know that the next real step would be onto the AM5 socket.
So of course I'd need a new motherboard and RAM, and Microcenter has some decent-looking bundle deals running right now:

  • 7600X - $300 w/ MoBo+16gbRAM

  • 9600X - $330 w/ MoBo+16gbRAM

  • 7700X - $400 w/ MoBo+32gbRAM

  • 9700X - $430 w/ MoBo+32gbRAM

  • 7600X3D - $400 w/ MoBo+32gbRAM

  • 7800X3D - $600 w/ MoBo+32gbRAM

  • 7950X3D - $730 w/ MoBo+32gbRAM
I know the 7800X3D and the 9800X3D are the greatest and everything; I'd love to get one, but they are just far too expensive to be worth it IMO.
To me, the 7600X3D and the 9700X seem like the best choices here.

Would it be a good idea to upgrade ASAP and get onto the AM5 ship with a respectable CPU or just wait until the performance gap is greater or some of the great CPUs (such as the 9800X3D) come down a bit in price?

Hahaha but I do hope they stay on the socket for a few years though.

they mostly change the board design from time to time so board manufactures can sell new boards again. i would like having slot cpu's again. best with coolers that cool both cpu sides.
would be cool. :lunar2019grinningpig:

IAMin greece and ihave the same quesiton. i upgrade my pc each 3 or 2 years and my latest upgrade was exactly 3 years ago in november 2021(6700xt) my next upgrade will be cpu ram and motherboard. do it now or wait? how much will the tarifis increase the prices? i ido it soon the best chooise from price to perfomance is a ryzen 9700x 32 gb 6400mhz and x870 motherboard. Total price is 815 euros now(for cheapest x870 motherboard)
MINE PC IS NOW IS
RYZEN71700 16 GB DDR4 3200MHZCL15 RX 6700XT 12 G RED DEVIL MP 600 2TB WRITE:4950MB/S READ:4250MB/S DELLP2416D 24'' 2560X1440 60HZ IPS
The perfomance of the pc is very good it loads evrything in 1 second(internet, windows, games programs, movies/series) and also runs all games maxed 1440p 60 fps so dont realy need to change them soon but ihave the same cpu rma and motherboard since march 2017.
Issue 2025 and on will be our rising electricity bills.
Power Companies have bonds/debt to pay and with more and more businesses closing the smaller pool of customers will have to pay more for electricity.
Upgrade to a laptop that uses less electricity yet performs like a 1000 watt sucking Desktop.

Sincerely, if you had done it a year or so ago when I suggested it, I think the 5800X3D would have been a stellar move for you. You wouldn't have needed an upgrade in a long time because It would have allowed you to either wait until the end of AM5 when pricing is probably better, or even to skip it entirely and go to AM6 (or whatever Intel has). It was still cheap like ~$300 at the time, so a little more or less in euros.

It's gone way up in price now so I'd say forget it even exists. However, the 5700X3D exists now and is even cheaper than the 5800X3D ever was (it's 4% to 10% slower but that's still a better value when it's 1/3 cheaper), and that's still going a massive increase over your 1700X. Your RAM is at least 3,200 MHz so it's fine enough, especially for an X3D. Might need a 40 euro Phantom Spirit or Peerless Assassin but you're probably looking at 250 to 300 euro instead of 850. Will the 5700X3D be slower than the 9700X? Yes, but not by enough to pay two and a half to three times more for the 9700X IMO.

as i said i upgrade each 2 or 3 years. If i had decided to do it in 2023 which would had been 2 years since the latest upgrade i would had done it but as i didnt want to do a upgrade in 2 years again. Should i keep the cpu rma and motherboard until one of the 3 dies like i did with my previous cpu ram and motherboard that ihad them from 2011 until 2017 when the cpu died? yes the 815 euros increases he pearless assasin cooler for the cpu whch costs 55 euros because none of the 9000 cpus have their own cooler included.

I doubt it will change anything, but in fairness, no one really knows.

It's quite possible that Trump might just slap tariffs on a few things and that's the end of it, but it could erupt in to a worldwide trade war. No one really knows what will happen. You are just as likely to see prices fall as rise. Trump has already been watering down his policy and showing that it is not about trade, it's about countering specific problems that certain countries are giving the US.
