not sure if trolling.

but basicly the market today is 2 brands only.

nvidea and radeon (with radeon these days being owned by amd and no longer by ati)

radeon already said for the next gen of cards they will not make high end models.
(so where they had cards that performed like 4080 and 4080s in this generation, but nothing that would equal the 4090)
the upcoming 5000 series from nvidea... will have radeons 8000 series..,. have no products that are better than an 5070 or 5070ti at best.
(but they most likely will be much lower priced for same performance)

so if you satisfied with low or midend performance.. radeon is the cheaper option
for highend.. nvidea only.

if you really want to look out the box. there are ARC gpu's made by intel.
but those underperform badly.. as in they are way way below even the budgetmodels of nvidea and radeon.
-> and their performance (or even ability) to run games is even worse.. due well such a marginal product what dev will put programming time to check if it works on those cards hardly anybody will own?
-> maybe this improves in the future but for now not really a viable option.

than there are apu's or the fact amd and intel sell certain cpu's with build in gpu no seperate gpu needed to run grafics.
-> those are supported in games but even the best of them are worse than even the most cheap 1030 or 1050 gpu from 8 years ago. they basicly are suited if you only want to play really old games... or do some office work..

than there is apple.. you can ofcourse not buy an apple gpu.. there are non.. but apple computers (the m4 being the latest model) are all basicly apu's.. and apple develops their own chops... based on arm. their most expensive computer of 2400 euro.. performing around an 3060 in gpu performance (the budgetmodel of 1 generation old gpu series (soon to be 2 generations old as we are about to get the 5000 series in januari)

a card sold for like 300 euro new and now is worth maybe 50 euro...
so you grossly overpay.. for 2400 euro you could get a pc with a radeon or nvidea gpu with much better performance.. but hey if you want to this IS a path you could go..

basicly thats them all....

long ago there used to be more p,ayers a very famous one was vodoo the brand to have in the late 90s... but it went bust..early 00s. putting gpu progress back 4 years...

there was also s3 with their savage cards (more known in the early 90s but also remaind in the late 90s.. went bust early 00s..too

matrox.. another brand that was around in the early 90s.. but dropped out like 1998.. (theys till excist somehow but make other products)

few other brands.. there were like 7 orso brands in the 90s.,. but when the 00s hit.. only 2 remained ati (with their radeon cards) and nvidea..(with their geforce cards) (ati later was bought by the cpu maker amd.. and was renamed amd radeon.

basicly the same thing happend to cpu's we used to have more than 2 brands cpu's too.. cyrix for example was a famous brand.. that held out long as 3d option.. but once like gpu's there was a small dosin of them... in the 90s..

only to go bust out or drop out the race and move to other products (give up to produce cpu's and produce chips for other products)..

only 2 remained amd and intel.

Nvidia would disagree with a 88% market share.

you missed the change.....AMD is 37% of steaming piles hardware survey.....the market is shifting.....AMD had a 400% market gain....oops......

You’re both wrong and neither of you can read the survey 💀 Nvidia’s share is. 77.37% and AMDs is 15%.

and you also need to account for the amd cpus with igpu
steam also counts those even when there is a dedicated nvidia gpu

same with intel igpu when paired with amd or nvidia dedicated gpu

I am also surprised at that.. i found artivle from 2 months ago amd admitting 7000 series flop.. sales have nosedived.

which surprisses me.
normally id say about 33% goes low end so 4060 lvl
50% goes midend so 4070 lvl
15% goes high midend so 4080 lvl
and 2% goes highenf so 4090.

well now.. amd would sell you a card performing like a 4070 for 4060 price
a card performing like a 4080 for 4070 price
and a card performing somewere between 4080 and 4090 for less than 4080 price..

so for 98% of buyers going radeon should have been a no brainer.

(ok the powerdraw would ne a concern tdp witg nvidea is terrible but with radeon somehow it was worse.. but tdp is something I care a lot about as it determines 80% of thr actual price most users dont look so savy..

AMD should have stuck to the 3 number naming scheme.

first number should have been the generation

second number should have been the performance 6 for mid (4060 tier), 7 for high-mid (4070), 8 for high end (4980), 9 for ultra (4090), and X for anything beyond.

third should have been for mid gen refreshes, so an RX 790's Ti Super equivalent could be an RX 795.

AMD's biggest issue is branding, and people not knowing what card does what.

I would imagine the shift to APUs, with handhelds like the Steam Deck are helping with that.

you'd say everybody who is considering a large purchase would do minimal product comparisinh check something like

https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gpu-hierarchy,4388.html

personal btw I still find nvideas lineup with all those super and ti versions a mess too.

I liked vodoo.. each series only 1 or 2 cards.
amd the older series would just stay being sold as the cheplaoer models.

basicly it be if we only ever had titan x titan z titan gtx 3090ti and 4090 and NONE ofbthe other models..

If someone needs to do that or search something like "AMD equivalent of 4070," aka having to use their competitors just to get a idea of its performance, then that is a dead give away that they have a major branding problem.
