Scared of updating BIOS. Need help with new CPU installation.
Hi guys! I have a B550 AORUS PRO V2 motherboard and I want to upgrade my Ryzen 5 5600 to a Ryzen 7 5700X3D. I already bought the new CPU. But now i'm kind of worried because when I go to the aourus website here: https://www.aorus.com/laptops/B550-AORUS-PRO-V2-rev-10/Support the Ryzen 7 5700X3D does not appear on the list. Even though the ryzen 7 5800X appears and other ryzen 9 5000s models appear.

Specifically on the BIOS download section in the update F15a says that it supports the Ryzen 7 5800X3D. I'm kind of assuming that this is the BIOS update that I need since I sit at version F12. Any help with this? I'm just unsure and considering the fact that I've heard people that say that updating BIOS can make or break a system so I want to do this right.

Any help is strongly appreciated since I basically followed build recommendations from a reddit PC building community. Thanks

It's fine, there's no x3D CPUS listed on the supported CPU list, probably because Gigabyte are too lazy to update it.

Pangoly shows the x3D chips as supported.

Well before i upgraded my Motherboard, my old b350f wont Run R5 5600x, so yeah update BIoS is a must, and generally if you bought stuff newer than your motherboard you should update bios,

Maybe by break meaning brick your system? That was very long time ago, when flash Bios wasnt a thing

Thanks for answering! Then according to that site i'm good since BIOS F10 update is needed when I have F12.

Even though it says on that site that i'm good with my BIOS, should one still update it?

Back then did you upgrade your BIOS to the latest update? Or did you pick a specific update that's not necessarily the latest?

Because my b350 support has ended, so the latest is the last update for my MB, there is no other option
If I were in a position of needing to update the BIOS, then by default, I would choose the latest non-Beta version. If you have issues, you can then go back and try older ones, but I'd try the latest non-Beta one first.

Most, if not all, 500 series boards should have received the BIOS that adds support for the 5700X3D by now. If in doubt, you can cross reference the release of a BIOS version and the release of the CPU and get a better idea.
Updating BIOS on a Gigabyte board is like pulling teeth. Don't do it unless you have to.
since its a gigabyte board its best to check there
https://www.gigabyte.com/us/Motherboard/B550-AORUS-PRO-V2-rev-10/support#support-cpu

and there it is listed, supported from F10+
so it will work

updating to latest bios should not give any trouble.
(maybe if you've encrypted your drives with bitlocker?)

you'll just have to activate your xmp memory profile again - but with the new cpu you have to do so anyway - I think?

that updating BIOS can break a system

this only happens when your pc loose power in the 1 to 2 minutes while the updating runs.

and yeah decrypt all your bitlocker drives before you do the update if you have any

Or if you install the wrong version in the wrong order.
This link is incorrect:
https://www.aorus.com/laptops/B550-AORUS-PRO-V2-rev-10/Support
It is for laptops (I don't know how, and what it means, but see the link...)

This seems to be correct link:

Version F10 of UEFI supports Ryzen 7 5700X3D. You can go with your current F12.

Whatever you decide (update or not):
1. Change only 1 thing at the time.
- either change the processor, check if everything is working, then update UEFI
- or update UEFI, make sure everything is working, then swap the processor
2. Always install stable version (non-beta)
3. Before updating UEFI read the realese notes. See what has changed. Are there any important fixes for you? You don't have to update, if they only added support to things, you don't use.
4. After you start UEFI update, don't turn off PC. The update process looks often very strange. People get confused and think it has hanged. Be patient. Let it finish. Even if it seems that nothng happens. Wait long time until normal boot screen appears.

Good luck!
Thank you all for the feedback! It's greatly appreciated
