4K is 1080p*2 and 1440p is just 720p*2.
Everything is a "stopgap" in the sense that later stuff may replace it. That's not exclusive to 1440p more than it is to anything else.
Until 4K becomes more accessible (meaning performant on cheaper hardware and/or not needing GPU upgrades as often), then 1440p will be a better option for most people. The advantages of higher resolutions become diminishing the higher you go, and 1440p is more than good enough for many people. I mean, the majority are below that point to begin with.
yeah that's just not true
4K = 1080 x4
and 1440 = 720x4
8K = 4x 4K or 16x 1080
that's why 4K is so much more demanding on a GPU , it's refreshing 4 1080 displays at once.
There is also the problem of even if games allow us to set that resolution not all games will scale their UI up to 1440p+ correctly, sometimes resulting in tiny text that humans can't read.
Personally this is why I'm sticking to 1080p forever: It's far more compatible with a broader range of older and new games.
most games that have been released over the past 15 years don't really have a problem with running on a 1440 display , of course there's going to be some exceptions , but generally there's not a huge problem other then the game may look a bit "blurry" up scaled from 1080 to 1440.
i used to be on the forever 1080 boat , but i bought a good 1440P display a year ago and i'm happy i made the change , i wouldn't change back to a 1080 display.
Limiting ourselves to the number of games we can play seems dumb, to me.
i haven't had that problem yet , and i run a full screen C64 emulator (games from the 80's), if that's not old then i don't know what is.
Wow, again with nothing but nonsense. First off 1080p literally an NOT be dead if its still the most common resolution BY FAR.
Second, you don't magically need a 40in display for 4k, no idea what made you think that (bad eyes maybe?).
Third, enjoy your ban.
1080p = "1920x1080"
therefore 1080p * 2 is the same as 2 * (1920 x 1080)
and using basic distribution they teach in like 6th grade math we get:
2 * (1920 x 1080) = (2*1920) x (2*1080) = 3840x2160
And 3840x2160 is what we know as 4K.
you fail basic math , because it's TWICE the resolution vertical PLUS TWICE the resolution horizontal.
1080x 1920 = 2,073,600 pixels
3840 x 2160 = 8,294,400 pixels
and guess what you get when you 4 x 2,073,600 pixels
that's 4 times the resolution...
And FYI Order of Operations
2 * (1920 x 1080)
is 2 * 2,073,600 = 4,147,200 (Not 4K)
you cannot simply say 2*(1920x1080) equals (2*1920) x (2*1080) , it's not the same equation ..PERIOD
If you have a 2 by 2 square how do you double it? You double both the height and width to get a 4 by 4 square. If you only double one side, you end up with a 2 by 4 shape, which is no longer a square. It is a rectangle with a different aspect ratio.
calling me sweety doesn't make you right.
here is a copy and paste from the intrawebs :
"Doubling a rectangle" means to increase both the length and width of a rectangle by a factor of two, resulting in a new rectangle with FOUR times the area of the original rectangle; essentially, you are multiplying each dimension by 2, which squares the value when calculating area (2 x 2 = 4) making the area FOUR times larger.
so again 4K is FOUR times the resolution of 1080 , if it was double then 1440 (2K) wouldn't exist (which is double 1080) , just changed up in height/width to suit the aspect ratio better , this is why up scaling from 1080 to 1440 sometimes looks a bit weird because it's not a native doubling of resolution
Not once did I mention "area". The area will be different based on the size of your monitor anyway. I mentioned doubling the resolution, aka the width (1920) and length (1080), aka, increasing them by a factor of two:
LMAO
the "X" in "1920 x 1080" is NOT multiplication, chief. It means "by" as is in 1920 by 1080, or in other words, it is referring to a rectangular shape where one side is 1,920 units long, and the other side is 1,080 units long.
I personally have a 4060 and a 4060 Ti and the only game i really have a little trouble with is company of heroes 3, that's on high/medium settings. (there's multiple settings to set)
which on 1080 is 2 million pixels (no matter the screen size)
1080 on a 30" screen has the SAME amount of pixels then 1080 on 50" screen (the pixels are just placed further apart and/or are bigger)
Further more
4K on a 30" screen vs 1080 on a 30" screen still has 4 times the pixels , regardless the screen size as it has NOTHING to do with resolutions.
