Buy RTX 4090 now or wait for 5090?
I game at max settings 4k 144hz and 4k 120hz dual monitor setup.

DO I buy a RTX 4090 or wait for 5090 and hope they are not out of stock and over priced for the first year?

you always buy what you want now.
else you be waiting forever.

especially with hardware cycles for each part lasting just 1.5 to 2 years so something new is always just around the corner

the only exeption is when you already have a working system and are within 3 months of a new release..
*for when a new series release you see the price of old models being dumped for 1/2 to 1/3d.. and you can get the new model thats 40% faster same price..

as the 5090 is to be released 25 januari.. thats within that 3 month window.. so i'd say wait if you can.
you might be able to pre order one so you will get one the date it is released.

I would wait since 5090 is said to be major performance gain over 4090 and it`s not that far off.
Thanks

The new RTX 5000 series are going to release any day between now and xmas. At the very least you can wait a little while to see what they're like then decide later. The RTX 4090's will still be there for sale at least through next summer and probably until this time next year.

I'm doubting they will be launching as if they were doing a fall launch for the 5000 series they would have done it already; and given the prior leaks/rumors of it being slightly delayed it's likely they will be launching early next year. Probably with the 5090 and 5080 maybe being in January with the mid tier cards coming around GTC in March.

There is obviously still the possibility but given the history of when they tend to launch cards its unlikely to launch a new generation this late in the year. The only cards they've launched this late were mid-cycle refreshes IIRC. Either way the general point still stands. We are two years into the 40 series; makes no sense to pay top dollar for the halo top-end product when it is so obviously at the very tail end of its sales lifecycle. 50 series leaks and fairly credible rumors from people with a solid track record would indicate the x90 skew is a massive increase in raw silicon beyond any generational core-to-core differences so it is likely going to be a very substantial increase in performance over the 4090.

Definitely worth waiting even if it means until Q1 or early Q2 next year.

Given how the 4090 prices went up I'd wait for RTX 5090 / 5080

The same question gets asked every year, same answers every year. Needs and Wants is all.

If you NEED it buy it, If you WANT it you have to wait. If your not sure then you do not NEED it or WANT it so just relax and enjoy what you have.

The Titan RTX 4090Ti was scrapped, so I am personally waiting to see what is next.

Well yea if you don't have a 4090 yet then just wait cause the 5080 will most likely replace it however it won't have nearly as much VRAM. Otherwise look at the 5090

well I for one miss the days when a new series would launch with the xx70 and xx80
(the mid end and high mid end modeld)
than release 3 months later the xx80ti and xx90(titan) the high end models
and 3 months after that the xx60 (the low end model)

and NO stupid "super" models nor any other ti versions exept the xx80ti

which would have the same chip as the xx90/titan bit with a bit less vram and cuda.

where the x80 and x70 would use another lesser design.. and the x60 woulf share their but get the variants unsuited for them.

oh and ofcourse with xx90/titan and xx80ti never using over 250w and 970 never over 130w with each gen gaining 40% permance while price and wattage gen to gen stayed the same..

I am going to get the 5090, I want the top dog card.

I just picked up a 14900K an hour ago. Waiting on my case and PSU to arrive tomorrow then Ill build it

(ryzen 7 9800x3d is sold out everywhere and it would actually cost more to buy a 9800x3d and mobo over what I bought, so I am happy to go with intel.

My 13700k sadly was affected by the issue, but I am confident the 14900k wont be since the bios update will be applied the moment i build it.

I went with the musetex y6 case, 14900k, asus rog strix z790 gaming-e mobo. Ill be reusing my 64gb ram my 3tb nvme and my gpu until the 5090 is out.

Gonna begin building her tomorrow,

Thanks again for the help and suggestion. Oh and they sold the last 4090 as I was walking in the door lol, so 5090 it is

Why would you buy into 14th Gen CPU when Intel has already moved away from those. And you might end up with a faulty one as well, since it's not always obvious those can be faulty when first using them until later down the road.

They released the bios fixes already, so you cant be affected if you update the bios before using(well you can buy highly unlikely.

And like I said, the 9800x3d was sold out and would cost more. My 13700k is fried, crashes on any game, its foobar for all intent and purpose, and the 14900k will last me for a good 5 + years to come for gaming and editing.

I also got the warranty with best buy, so if it has issues anyttime in next 5 years, itll be replaced or upgraded
