Question about Cablemod
Hello friends
I just recently got back into pc game woth a new build. I had my old 12pin x 3 8pin from cable mod. I wad looking into getting the cool 90degree fitting but seen there was a recall. I bought the thor 2 1000watt plat ad my psu and it came with a 12pin x 2 8 pins. I read that one port can pump out 300w.
My questions are is cable mid cables ok to use ? Why the 2x8 and not a 3x8 ?
Thanks for the help

explain better
12pin+4 hpwr, has several configs, 150-300-450-600w

6+2pin = 150w
6pin = 75w

cablemod only had a recall on the 90deg adapters

Be VERY careful when mixing cables from another power supply unit.

There is no standard so the pins can be on different spots and can cause a lot of problems. To the point where they'll kill the PSU.

From the major Youtubers LinusTechTips, Jay2Cent, GamersNexus and more have brought up that dangers of using other PSU cables on other PSUs.

You should contact Cable mods themselves and see if they know that the cable you bought will work on your new PSU.

I agree its always good to air on the side of caution. I went on the website and the thor 2 1000 plat is compatible with RT Series Cables. I just dont under stand why some cables are 12 x 3 8pin vs 12 x 2 8 pin

if the adapter is 2x 6+2pin to 12+4pin hpwr, then is 300w max
if the adapter is 3x 6+2pin, to 12+4pin hpwr, then its 450w max
if the adapter is 4x 6+2pin, to 12+4pin hpwr, then its 600w max

on the 12v hpwr connector, the 4 pins should identify to the gpu the limits of whats connected to it

The 12 pin that came with my psu was 12 pin x 2 8pin out put 600watts Gen5. Would this one be better and safer to use then the RT cable mod ?

does the psu have the 12+4 hpwr plug on it?
or only the 6+2 pci-e plugs or cables

Based on images, doesn't look like it has a dedicated header on the unit and requires an adapter

2 8-pin for 600W output is stupid and potentially dangerous if true, should be using at least 3 or 4 8pin to get that kind of output
