Ryzen 7 9800X3D Review: "Devastating Gaming Performance" (Tom's Hardware)
https://www.tomshardware.com/pc-components/cpus/amd-ryzen-7-9800x3d-review-devastating-gaming-performance/2

So the rumors mostly appear to be true, the 9800X3D really is going to dominate more than expected, Intel is at least around 30% behind now with the 14900K and even further behind with the 285K. They really need to fix this, and fast, or we might end up with diminished upgrades per generation again.

I didn't expect such a massive difference. Wow.
I actually consider selling my 7800x3D and upgrade. Not because of average FPS but more because of 1% and 0.1% low what means less stutters and dips.

Yeah if I was in the market for a new system then I would probably go with a 9950X3D, but still don't have a reason to, so I'm just going to wait.

Leave it to der8auer to be the first one that on the first day is like "That's a nice CPU... time to delid it!"

Hey. idk what intel is about to do at this point. Their new platform is a complete joke for now, not competing neither with price nor performance.

Wait 2-4 years and try again. AL has a lot of similarities with Zen (1st gen). Them removing HT was just foolish though.

They did it because the architecture can make up for the lack of multi-threading, it's not actually a requirement to get good multi-core performance, FX was doing well in multi-core performance back then despite not having it.
Where their performance hits came from was mostly because of the design change, there's too much latency that's holding back.

You can't even compare it to the Zen 1 because back then their Intel Core I7 cost as much as the Ryzen 7. AMD were a bit slower on single core processors, but at the same time the multi-core performance with their pricing was amazingly good. This is how they entered with the AM4 plaform.

Intel is going nowhere with these CPUs on this new platform. They are not amazing in any field. I was expecting price cuts due their design, but no.

I mean't the architectural difference. AL is MCM where's everything before was monolithic.
Zen 1s weren't chiplets either unless we talk about the Threadrippers.
I know Intel is working on chiplets since 2021 or somewhere there. In fact Arrow Lake are not the first chiplet CPUs by Intel.
Metor lake are chiplets.
Sapphire Rapids are chiplets. (Jan 10 2023 launched).

Even before the chiplets, they were working.
Pentium D and quad core duo CPUs were basicly 2 die working togheter.

Dayyyum. I just built a new PC with a 7800XD 2 months ago.

Ahh well. It;s a still a awesome gaming CPU and will do me for a a few years.

let's laugh at Intel users even more now:selphinehappy:
Being a fanboi for either is a fools errand.
Well, I will be buying one. I had planned on buying next year, and that would have been intel, but they dropped the ball BADLY!
I hope the gains persist i intend to upgrade my x670e in 2027 or whatever year support ends with a new cpu and 2tb gen5 ssd and a new GPU.
And yet these CPU's barely matter for most.

LTT did a great objective viewpoint on this, for most people they are not at 1080P or with a GPU like a 4090.

Cool it got 800 FPS whilst the other got 750! it's pointless.

"You should choose based on what a purchase does for you today, not based on what it might do for you later"

Where a stronger CPU shines in gaming is when it is doing extreme calculations like Factorio.

It is impressive, but my 5800X3D is still doing well.
