WIll my i7 4770 last me a couple years?
I currently have a 4770 non k version. Seems to be doing the job, but I wonder if it will bottleneck a 980ti or the new Pascal GPUs once they hit? I just built a new pc around the LG1150 socket so I'm gonna be with Haswell for awhile and didn't know if a 4790k would be a worth while investment compared to what I've already got. Gut feeling tells me my CPU will be fine.

cpu
possibly 5+ years

a buddy is still using his first gen i7 950 (oc to 4ghz), released 2009

if your board is a z87/z97, the 4690k/4790k and a good cpu cooler will make it last longer
if you need a new board, it might be worth it to step up to skylake i5k board and ddr4 for a new build, then tranfer your 4770k cpu/board/ram to another pc
An i7 probably will last for a long time.
In games such as AC Syndicate, BF Battlefront i7 4770 does bottleneck gtx980 ti, the use of cpu is always nearly 99% and gpu usage is quite low. Personally I'm going to wait for Broadwell-E or Caby Lake cpu. And there is no point in investing into 4790k because it's nearly the same cpu as 4770. Get i7 6700k or wait for broadwell-E 6-10 core cpu. I don't recommend i5 6600k because it's WAY slower than i7 6700k in games and other applications (i5 6600k = 4770 when it comes to performance).

Can't wait to wait for 2021 and 2013 old cpu not bottlenecking 2 Volta GPUs... You clearly don't understand anything when it comes to pc hardware.

There's something wrong with your computer. My 4770k doesn't bottleneck my 980ti in either of those games.
Stock i5-4670k doesn't bottleneck my 980Ti

I would suggest you inform yourself again. The i7 4770 absolutly doesn't slow down a 980 ti at the games you mentioned.

There is something terrible wrong with your settings.
I get 100% gpu usage with RotTR, Witcher 3, AC Unity, Syndicate etc with my current set up.

Same thing with my overclocked 4690k
Honestly torn between upgrading to a 4790k, or leaving my i7 4770 alone and upgrading to a 980ti.
if the board is a z97 you cant go wrong with the 4790k

else, the 980ti will last about 3 years with the latest games maxed at 1080-1440p
May grab the 4790k and slum it with my 970 til I see what Pascal is all about.

just overclock your gpu if you want it to run faster
I've got it over clocked to 1360mhz at the moment, but the 970 can only do so much. I'm sure I can push the overclock further, AZ I'm at 1360 with no added Voltage.
