i7 6700k compatibility issues with Windows 7?
So I'm finally pushing forward my machine to Skylake, then I came across an article stating Intel won't be supporting their processors on Windows 7 (starting with Skylake) any longer. I planned on installing Windows 7 and keeping it on my machine. Is it more reasonable to upgrade to Windows 10 at this point? Will my processor not be taken full advantage of if I decide to keep Windows 7?

You are referring to the very recent announcement from MS, correct? If you believe this blogger, then it's nothing more than a failed PR stunt:

There is no issues with Skylake and Win7. That may change down the road with newer CPUs and Chipsets, but for now you're fine. Long as you have Win7 SP1 64bit.

Another scare tactic to force you switch to 10.

Stop supporting a old os thats no longer supported and switch over to win 10

So much faster and secure not to mention win 7 doesn't use directx 12 and win 10 is free.

If the layout bothers you use something like classic shell.

Yes an OS is basically dead when mainstream support stops, as has occurred for Win7 (Jan 2015) Mainstream support is the end of feature support; and as such, hardware makers are no longer obligating to continue hardware support or newer drivers/software for it. Course they never really are obligated to support a certain OS in the first place. But given how strong Win7 usage is, I wouldn't say it is dead just yet. But for any new PC, you really should be using Win10, plus you can just download Win10 and install it, no activation or purchase required. So on a new build it will actually save you some money.

Honestly there's no reason not to upgrade I'd say upgrade anyway but if you really don't want to you don't have to

I honestly don't mind upgrading, however, the only thing holding me back is that I work with a lot of older programs that may or may not be compatible with Windows 10. Windows 7 runs these programs just fine, but I don't want my performace to be restricted because of my operating system preference.

I had to get win 10 and find plenty of reasons to not upgrade. If you multiple monitors that are not brand new then forget that working properly!!

All honesty, go for Windows 10. 7 is very old and will most likely begin losing compatibility. (Yes it is compatible with more than 10, but I'm looking forward.)

And yet here I am running Win10 with a pair of U2407WFP-HC monitors. 2007 models.

Also, welcome to a 9 month old topic.

Yes Win10 really would not have such issues with Displays; that comes down more to your overall GPU support. If your GPU does not get along with an OS, then yes then you would have such issues as Display related issues.
