Best Gaming Modem/Router
I presently own a TP-LINK TD-W8980. Aside from not allowing my Xbox 360 to connect to the internet regardless of what configs or port forwards I try, it has a TERRIBLE firmware as it is a pain to use and doesn't articulate information well.

I am looking for a suitable replacement within a $150 budget and so far I am leaning toward an ASUS RT-N66U.

Anything better than that for the price?

I'm using the ASUS (RT-AC68U) Wireless-AC1900 Dual-Band Gigabit Router. I love it.....so far great gaming router.

The suggestions above are just routers... no modulator/demodulator (aka the modem part).

For example: ASUS (RT-AC68U) is a great gaming router, but you would want the...

ASUS DSL-AC68U DUAL-BAND 802.11AC AC1900 GIGABIT ADSL/VDSL MODEM ROUTER

Else you would have to get a separate modem...

This might be over your price range?

Note: This modem/router forces FAST technology, which will boost your internet performance (if your ISP can support it). Some ISP (Internet Service Providers) will adjust the connection their end, while this device automatically attempt to boost it your end. So just know this, if you have connection handshake issues or early slow performance, as it attempts to adjust over time. It will tend to work great or just drop out daily (depending on how your ISP acts). DO NOT use if you have a weak connection.

If your ISP can't handle that one, then consider instead the...

Nighthawk D7000 VDSL/ADSL Modem Router AC1900

This one will be much more stable and compatible, but slightly slower performance.

Both have Beamforming technology, which is great for wireless AC performance/signal. Still consider wired connect to your main gaming PC however if possible. Get the latest firmware update too when first setting up.

Is your ISP providing a modem? Many ISPs provide the modem, but some let you use your own.

Yeah, I should have said that the ASUS router I bought doesn't have a modem and the one you have selected doesn't either. You need a DSL modem in addition to the router I purchased. I looked at the recommended modems that my ISP recommends and then bought the modem separately.
Currently our ISP provides AARIS DOCSIS 3.1 Cable Modems and we buy our own router. The modem's been great. 50 down and 5 up with a ping of about 11-15ms to just about anywhere we test regionally. Many clan members have higher speeds but I usually host because of low pings even when hosting. In game after hours of gameplay my ping range is about 20-40...an average is more like 29.

The ASUS AC1750 and AC1900 are both VERY good.
I remember when LinuxTechTips reviewed them; he knows his stuff and it highly recommended them.

As far as ISP speeds, around 25 down / 5 up is plenty for most; what really counts is you getting good low pings when you doing online gaming. Someone else in the same server could have 1000 up & down; but if their ping sux, it will show.
