Will this graphics card work in a alienware x51 r2??

You need to find out what PSU your PC has. On the web I saw someone saying that it had a 330W power supply, which it would be a NO upgrade answer.

The x51 can accomodate a GTX 970 but only if you have the 330W PSU brick.

However the 970 HAS to be a single fan model. For example something like this:

you are limited to a 150w gpu with the x51 300w power brick
r9 270 or r7 370 can work, but totally not worth it
move to nvidia gtx 960-970 for a massive upgrade in performance staying under 150w

r9 270x is 170w
r9 380 is 190w

You dont want an AMD as they require more power so only very weak AMD cards will fit.
