Intermittent disconnections with Ethernet connection (Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller)
For the past month now, my ethernet connection would randomly drop and re-connect after about 30 seconds or so.

I've tried everything I could find online and was unsuccessful in solving the problem:

Installing new drivers
Rolling back to old drivers
Completely uninstalling the device and drivers and re-installing
Turning off the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to saver power" option
Turning off "Green Ethernet" and "Energy Efficient Ethernet"

I could be imagining it, but I seem to disconnect most often when playing online games- when the traffic is high.

I'm on Windows 10
Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

That option has always been disabled for me by default, but I have tried using the other options in it as well, to no avail.

most likely a damaged cable or incorrect driver

How long is your cable going?

Get a good cat6 not cat5e. Probably cheaper to buy a reel, crimper and connectors, make your own, then make up a bunch and sell them cheap :) That way it costs you nothing, pays for itself (and profit) :)

Thanks for all the replies everyone, sorry I did neglect to mention that I have tried several cables, though I don't own a cat6 at the moment- I will consider getting one but I'm just curious if there's a way I can just fix this now.
My cable runs about 25 feet

Get the driver from Realtek's website rather than Windows Updates.
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=13&PFid=5&Level=5&Conn=4&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false
Oh yes, I did download from Realtek but no luck there either.

Well, if the cat5e don't work most likely the cat6 won't either. Cat 5e is the minimum for gigabit ethernet. Cat6 has twice the bandwidth at 200 Mhz, 5e is 100 Mhz.

Well, the issue isn't that it's not working at all, rather, it's that I keep getting sporadic disconnections. I should clarify that I AM using the PC with the issue, but who knows how long this session might last before my next disconnection.

Go wireless :)

Here's an idea, what I do to test problems

Get a Linux ISO, install it to USB using Rufus or YUMI, and boot to a LIVE Linux (use Linux Mint for example)

Test the ethernet that way.

That will see if it's a Windows driver issue or not. Use a Linux driver for a while to surf on the Live USB.

I had driver issues on Windows with some Wifi modules, I ran Linux, no problem. So it was a Windows driver issue.

While this is another can of worms from my issue at hand, I did switch from Wireless because I was having a similiar issue with disconnections lol.

Just can't escape it that easy, it looks like.

is it just affecting this device or others aswell?
is your router firmware upto date?
have you tried a different router?
have you contacted your ISP to check if they are having issues at there data centers?
have you checked port controls for online games (port forwarding)?
have you tried it with real time scanning AV off?
have you tried it with firewall off?
is anyone else using the same connection as you when your playing?
have you tried using a VPN?
have you downloaded anything dodgy in the past month?
Have you checked for virus' and malware?

Linux, no really, Live USB Linux (Mint) and try those drivers.

If that works, then it's Windows driver thats the problem.

A lot of consumer routers cannot handle lots of connections or maintain high speeds, especially stock firmware (I use DD-WRT to replace the firmware if I can).

is it just affecting this device or others aswell? - Only this device

is your router firmware upto date? - Yes
have you tried a different router? - No
have you contacted your ISP to check if they are having issues at there data centers? - Yes, (no issues)

have you checked port controls for online games (port forwarding)? - Yes but this goes outside of gaming too, which is all the more infuriating

have you tried it with real time scanning AV off? - No

have you tried it with firewall off? - Yes

is anyone else using the same connection as you when your playing? - Nobody else
have you tried using a VPN? - No

have you downloaded anything dodgy in the past month? - The most dodgy thing I've downloaded in the past month is probably an emulator for PS2, but it's long gone now anyway.

Have you checked for virus' and malware? - Yes and I've cleared anything that might be considered harmful.

Unfortunately, a few of the things here that I tried yielded another disconnection just now, but I have just updated the firmware of the router so I'll wait to see if that's the issue, thanks

Linux USB, eliminiate the hardware, run Linux on a LIVE USB, then you know it's software.

I am having the same exact problem. Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller. Win10. Tried 2 cables. Going to try another ethernet controller.
