What's the monitor model?

Consider looking for a VESA Mount Adapter Bracket - some monitor models will allow for this, such as a range of the Acer monitors, etc.

LG W2486L so it's probably a little more tricky.

Would something like this, work for you?

EZM Adaptor Kit:

I would avoid drilling custom holes, unless it's the last option available.

Not really, it's like having a spider crawl up the back of the monitor.

Haha, that's one way of looking at it. Well good luck finding something suitable, hopefully a better/easier option already available, rather than custom building (unless you are good with that type of thing).

Well, at least Velcro would give you an early warning of failuree... RRRRIIIIP.

What about a re-case? Any generic cases for adding VESA to the panel?

I could put the panel and PCB's into a new case. That would be an ideal solution.

Second hand damaged panel of similar make and outputs but with VESA use that as a doner case maybe.

I do have an old Samsung that died (might try to revive that someday) dont know if it has VESA or not I may check later.
