Do you get sound thru the headphone jack or other audio source from the motherboard?

If so, that would put the GPU at fault. I'd recommend cleaning the driver out with DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) and do a clean install of the latest driver from Nvidia. If you already have the driver downloaded, delete it and download it again.

i do not get sound through any source on the mobo, the optical might work but i have no devices to try it.

"If you already have the driver downloaded, delete it and download it again."
Or try downgrading the driver to an old stable version in which the sound may worked.

ok, heres some more updated information, i ran DDU and wiped the gpu compeltely out, booted up, no sound, no registing a plugged in 3.5mm. So i feel i isolated it away from the GPU and im thinking something got borked during the BIOS update. I added more information the the link provided up top. I will try rolling back audio drivers. I dont know alot about registry keys, could that be ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ up the audio?

Uninstall your sound drivers and reinstall. Check your BIOs that onboard sound is enabled. Navigate to control panel > sound and check if HDMI audio is enabled.

What motherboard do you have?

check windows sound settings, and disable the hdmi sound card if you do not use it

It's disabled. I'd upload the pictures here, but i've tried every "simple" solution i can think of.

realtek audio doesnt reconize the 3.5mm plugged in, the speakers are greyed out and it says "device is not plugged in".

Thanks all the same for the solutions.

i might use http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IRVQ0F8?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00 for a month or 2 till I can replace the mobo, processor, and case.

win 10
p9x79
16GB ddr3
gtx 970
i7 3820 3.6GHz socket lga2011

In case you all were wondering.

you can tick the box for detecting audio devices, and force it to output to that port

if its the fron panel jack, make sure the case header plugged into the mobo correctly

where do i do this from? I want to force it to detect the rear 3.5mm jacks.

are you using the green port?
thats the stereo audio output
for 5.1 analog black is rear l/r, orange is sub/center
7.1 analog adds gray for side r/l

Make a Linux live CD (Ubuntu) and boot with it. If there's no sound there's a hardware problem or some BIOS settings misconfigured. If there's sound on Ubuntu, it's a driver problem or the Windows system has gone bollocks.

GENIUS. i havnt thought about doing that. thank you man.
