Does smoking near a pc effect the performance?
Its seems that every time i smoke near my pc while playing makes it overheat and crash. It a laptop so overheating is a pretty common problem for me.

See my edited post above. As for the baby, I was referring to your laptop.

You need a can of compressed air (can purchase for cheap at most computer stores), spray it in short, quick bursts at many various angles on your heatsink / fan to clear out the dust.

Also, consider the cooling pad, it will blow the air up and away from the device (probably blow smoke back in your face however).
lol, thx for the help. ill get the compressed air, as for the cooling pad, any budget cooling pads you can recommand?

Depends on your laptop size, to what cooler would be best.

I would suggest something like the Cooler Master SF-17.

The reasons being it's a single large fan 180mm - Larger fans draw more airflow, while using less effect in rotations and therefore also less noise. It would be around 21dBA, which isn't bad considering an airflow of 70CFM (double of some others).

It still causes buildup nonetheless. You enjoying the smell has nothing to do with it.

You're still correct yeah, and we are off topic lol.

Were we offtopic? I don't think we were.

The OP's topic is about overheating and he thinks it may be due to him smoking. Stating about the buildup is an obvious possibility of the overheating.

Go electronic. E-Cig or dry leaf vaporizor. You could vape some liquid stuff...but lets be honest dry leaf is more fun with certain leafs ;)

Simple answer... don't smoke when near the pc/laptop... don#'t ask people for help just use common sense... though you seem lacking. compressed air cans wont work, you'd just push stuff into the computer and onto circuits and stuff breaking it... and no point washing parts as then 100% bust.

Compressed air cans do work and extremely well... They are used by many computer experts.

The trick is short bursts only. Multiple angles. You will find dust will group up, then leap out as a dust bunny when done correctly as the quick pressure forces it to the side then back upwards. The dust escapes the same flow as the air escapes back out. You just might want to vaccum out the area around it afterwards or just do it outside.

Note:
- Continuous holding down of the air, can cause fan to spin over RPM or force dust to pack in more (causing damage).
- Holding the can upside down will have a freezing effect (causing damage if not dried before running), try avoid doing that.

That gunk is called tar. Short term it isn't much of an issue for a PC. Long term it builds up not only in the smoker's lungs but on everything around a smoker. Being tar, almost anything that touches it will stick to it. Like dust. This dust covering the entire electronic circuitry will decrease the ability of the cirucuitry to stay cooler. That will cause the circuitry to fail.

Tar, and what is stuck to it can't be removed by using compressed air.
im getting mixed opinions here, any final answer?

Try cleaning the tar build up on your monitor with compressed air and see how that works.

They work extremely well with dust... smoking isn't dust.

You miss understand the full picture...

Smoke contains tar, tar acts as a glue which gets inside the laptop... it's not actually the problem however, it's the dust which then rests and sticks to that, building up over time. Your laptop becomes a dust magnet and it will stick!

I accept that's true, but as you said, tar and also dust particles, ash and other types of crap, some stuff will just stick and get under components an air duster wont get to. and sometimes go inside some components

True... I wouldn't know about that, as I don't smoke (well only the good stuff as a kid). Perhaps cyber clean (high-tech cleaning compound) or opening and actually wiping it down with a cloth might be necessary, not sure.

Done it years ago smoked and played with desktop just get some compressed air spray to blow the particles out computer be fine.

smoke itself will not hurt the pc, but the dust/particle buildup on fans, filters, heatsinks will cause it to damage fans and/or overheat, which can kill the pcs performance if it is throttling
or if components do not have overheat power states, they will cook themselves

solution, use an aircompressor and blow in the laptops vents to clean them
and make sure the fans spin
you can get most laptop fans on ebay to replace any broken ones

Smoker exhaled smoke, that contains tars, which leads to the fact that the contact surface, radiators and fans and the top covered with resin dust is adhered, which is impossible to blow off the compressor.
Contacts oxidized and corroded, reduce heat irradiation on radiators, and the dust not only leads to the overheating and short circuit (static)
Smoker's PC is very difficult to clean, need special liquid and ultrasonic bath, dissolving the resin but do not touch the lacquer which covered textolite boards. Conventional vacuum cleaner or compressor - is not enough.

P.S.: When smoking formed about 4000 substances, released 300 different (tar)resins. 30 of these substances are toxic to death or to cause cancer. Have a nice day.
