Seriously, I about vomited when I found out how disgusting my car got after only having it for just short of a year at the time.

Beer goggles.. but for smoking? Something like that.

It builds up rather fast.

My classic smells delicious. Like smoke and sweet mold.

It still causes buildup nonetheless. You enjoying the smell has nothing to do with it.

There is nothing you can do to protect your PCs from the filth build up.
It will actually turn into moist tobacco gunk all over the inside of a PC.
I've cleaned them out before from customers. Trust me, it never gets clean and it pre-maturely will kill your fans for sure. Even all filters Desktop PCs, the filters will build up so bad that all your PC will eventually due is churn hot air cause the filters get totally caked up.

Best bet is take breaks from your PC and go outside to smoke if it is something such as tobacco. Now vaping of course is fine.

That gunk is called tar. Short term it isn't much of an issue for a PC. Long term it builds up not only in the smoker's lungs but on everything around a smoker. Being tar, almost anything that touches it will stick to it. Like dust. This dust covering the entire electronic circuitry will decrease the ability of the cirucuitry to stay cooler. That will cause the circuitry to fail.

Tar, and what is stuck to it can't be removed by using compressed air.

My computers and cars are fine Lol.

For computers I don't think this is a huge issue really. Maybe those who grew up when computers were introduced, and indoor smoking was rampant have some experience and stories to tell. I could be wrong.

If you believe the smoke from your cigarettes is heating your PC up, move to a more open area if possible. Maybe place a fan somewhere close by to push the smoke away. And give it a good dusting.

I find this to be an interesting topic Haha. :smoke:

aight, the prob is that I usualy smoke while playing, any filters recomanded?

I've taken apart computers that were owned by smokers for years. The gunk that builds up inside the computer as a result is extremely difficult to get off. It is thick and grimy. Simply blowing air into the fan vents barely does anything with that kind of gunk. I've had desktop units that were so bad I simply told the client to junk it and buy a new one.

Second hand smoke kills!

Get a can of compressed air to clean out the dust from fans/heatsinks.

Get a cooling pad for your laptop, if still hot and connect up it's large USB fan to help out (larger the fan - the cooler and quieter it will be).

Avoid smoking around your baby (aka the laptop).

The short answer - - Yes, smoke around it can damage it. The tar builds up and blocks the heatsink. It gets drawn in by the fan, and due to the small area space, doesn't escape out. Rather it sits and acts as an adhesive causing dust to cling more tightly to any surface inside the laptop.

See my edited post above. As for the baby, I was referring to your laptop.

You need a can of compressed air (can purchase for cheap at most computer stores), spray it in short, quick bursts at many various angles on your heatsink / fan to clear out the dust.

Also, consider the cooling pad, it will blow the air up and away from the device (probably blow smoke back in your face however).

Dust filters will just get clogged with tar, which would still block airflow. Dusting would help a little, but tar is tough to get rid of with conventional dusting. You'd need to do to more dusting, more aggressively, than a non-smoking PC user.

Belmont charcoal filters :smoke:

I was thinking of another thread, if your laptop is a bit older you may want to consider reapplying the thermal paste on your CPU and GPU.
