Utter pointless it is.
DOTA2 could run fine @ 1080p on highest on a potato.
For other demanding games, I would have to say no; 1080p @ 144Hz max for single GTX 970
Lesser games like DOTA2, CSGO, TF2, u should be ok at that res on that GPU though.
Dota 2 won't need it, but considering it more as a future proof. Allowing performance of GTX 970 SLI, GTX 980Ti, or Nvidia Pascal for the future upgrades to gaming upon, etc...
Note: With the Acer XB270HU, consider version 2 (as it doesn't have screen bleeding) or Acer XB271HU (it's newer model). It's an extremely good monitor for hardcore gaming purposes.
It wasn't 60 FPS all times; but I was happy with 45-50 with nearly everything cranked up visually. 60+ FPS was doable. Course not in FO4 in the larger cities, but that's another story.
I just really prefer 980 Ti for 1440p/144Hz cause that has no issue getting 100+ FPS even on GTAV maxed out.

It is more demanding games where u would maybe have to drop it down to 1080p for better FPS.
