GTX 960 or R9 380?
I was going to pick r9 380 for my new builf but my room gets hot easily but it have better performance. Heat is a major problem since my room is small.

The R9 series isn't getting that warm (edit: *in comparison to what ATI used to be). GPU wise AMD / ATI is an alternative.
But personally i'd go for the 960.

The R9 is better but if your having heat issues i would sort that out first as heat creates resistence and thus reduces performance. On the up note at least it will give you a little more time to save up for the card and get an even better one.

Physx effects tilt my favour towards Nvidia, despite the slight performance advantage of the 380.

That is, if you care about such things in some games. Which I do.

Im all about nvidia to but in this instance i say R9 as both besides being some what newish are already falling behind on modern game requirements.

I wouldnt go below a 970 FTW+ ACX2.0 these days but if you can afford an extra 120 then definitely go for a 980.

NVIDIA said the GTX 960 can overclock to 1500MHz core speed on launch day.

It runs cooler and uses less power... So factor that into your comparison considerations.

Well i had bro that plays is ps4 which creates more heat. It gose to 29c. so if i got an r9 280 then it will be 40c room temperture.

The 380 doesn't get that hot to be honest, it has a much TDP compared to other AMD cards such as the 280.

As you can see there is little difference in terms of temps and even power consumption for that matter.

Heat shouldn't really be a problem if you pick a case with good airflow (at least 2-3 fans) and a good GPU sub vendor who uses a good cooler, for example Asus with their Strix coolers.

But amd cards don't even last long. I heard a story that some and card burnt their motherboard.

Not sure where you got the idea that they don't last long. Both AMD and Nvidia GPUs can fail. Personally I've had a couple GPUs from both sides fail on me in the past.

How long a GPU lasts will depend on how well used it is and how well maintained it is. Keep it clean and in a well ventilated case and you'll get many years out of it. This applies for any GPU you buy, regardless of brand.

The whole story about the burning out motherboard thing was probably that Crimson driver bug that occured a few weeks back. Only a few people burnt out their cards and the bug was fixed within days. Again driver bug issues can occur with both AMD and Nvidia hardware, its an unavoidable thing that happens from time to time on both sides.

Actual card temps boils down to ambient and actual cooler used ie a 380x myst ^ can score lower temps than a gtx960 simply because of the gpu cooler used.

The "old" ati and NVidia cards both had their problems but it's the cusp of 2016 now so it's irrelevant.

Ps, the gtx970 is a better start point if you can afford it, if not, then the 380x/380 are next down on the list.
