I would recommend MSI Afterburner. It can show pretty much everything for gpu and cpu. Also allows gpu overclocking. You can set up in game overlay and even capture screenshots/video.

HWMonitor

MSI Afterburner w/ the bundled RivaTuner; then setup the options for On-Screen-Display (OSD) for displaying things like FPS and GPU Temp. All within a single OSD & App. You can also configure OSD via RivaTuner in many ways, such as the OSD colors, font sizing, and overall screen position.

Ditch HWMonitor; OpenHardwareMonitor is basically the same from someone else, but very light weight too and you can always have it run in background as icon and OS startup w/ auto-minimize.

GPU-Z is good to have on hand too, as the sensors are often times more helpful then what you have for tracking graphs in Afterburner.

And none of these I listed will conflict with each other either.

I installed MSI Afterburner and GPU-Z. GPU-Z is nice having it in the system tray, but for Afterburner I can't get the on-screen display to work in a game. I set the keys to press to show it but nothing shows. Anything else to do to set it up?

It can be a bit confusing. Did you go to 'Monitoring' tab in the settings? You have to click on every parameter you want to monitor and tick a box to show in On-Screen display.

Cool, got it all setup. Now the only thing is that the OSD always shows and the buttons I set to show/hide do nothing. But that's fine I guess.

This. I've been using it for many years, never any issues.

It doesn't show gpu temps, it says its a trial version. That's why I was looking for software that would that I didn't have to pay for.

I use MSI Afterburn. It can tell the temperature of CPU each core, Each core usage, Each CPU Core Temperature, Ram Usage, GPU Temp AND The Total GPU Usage

HWMonitor has a regular version that's free. Not a trial one, and it does include GPU temps. Here: http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html (don't select Pro, use the download link on the left side).

Ah, alright, guess I clicked on Pro before. I'm content with gpu-z and afterburner atm, =)

HWMonitor is "ok" but OpenHardwareMonitor is a step-up from that app. Basically same, different maker. In the end it shows a little more and you can have OpenHardwareMonitor load in OS startup and auto-minimize to tray.

This is what I put on basically every system I build and also use mostly myself for my systems.

- Piriform Speccy[www.piriform.com] for more in-depth system information. From the makers of CCleaner.

- CPUID CPU-Z[www.cpuid.com]

- TechPowerUp GPU-Z[www.techpowerup.com] also works well on Laptops or systems with Dual GPUs (like Intel + NVIDIA) and u can toggle between the GPUs in GPU-Z to see which is doing what.

- OpenHardwareMonitor[openhardwaremonitor.org]

- MSI Afterburner w/ RivaTuner[gaming.msi.com] for use with virtually any AMD or NVIDIA Desktop/Mobile GPUs, regardless of brand maker.

- MSI Kombuster (in the Afterburner download section). I also like the Server App + Mobile App; you run the Server on the Gaming PC, then the Mobile App on a Phone or Tablet and you can control your GPU just as u would from Afterburner basically, while connected to the same local network.
