144hz monitor stuck at 60hz
My AOC G2460FQ is set to 144hz in Nvidia control panel and windows monitor settings, using a displayport cable and a GTX 970. Tests online keep telling me that it is set to 60hz and in-game it feels just like my old 60hz monitor and there is a lot of tearing. Have I missed some key things when it comes to setting up a 144hz'er or what is going wrong?

It may have to do with your connections. HDMI only supports 60hz. So you would have to go with DVI cable to get the 144hz refresh rate. Assuming that is your card is running you games with a high enough frame rate to begin with.

He said DisplayPort; those support 144Hz on newer GPUs like GTX 970

What online site is telling you that your monitor is 60Hz?

http://www.vsynctester.com/ and http://www.testufo.com/#test=framerates and obviously the shadow behind the mouse. I cannot change the refresh rate to any lower either, it is stuck at 60hz no matter what.

You said in your OP that you set it up in NVIDIA-CP to 144Hz, so which is it?
You should have selections (depending on what monitor all supports) such as 60, 120, 144 hz
Most won't support below 60Hz. Typically is usually only TVs that go under 60; such as 24, 30, 50, 60 Hz for most TVs.

Try a benchmark or game where u know u can get above 144 FPS when VSync if off; then set NVIDIA-CP's Global Settings to Adaptive for that VSync. If the Monitor is set to 144Hz then it should have a stable VSync of 144 FPS; again in tests/games where u get FPS above this; otherwise it could still drop below 144 obviously.

Ignore what Refresh Rates are available in Windows > Screen Resolution > Advanced.
Do it all from NVIDIA Control Panel and you should be fine.
Some Monitors have a mode u must change to get 144Hz; look in the Monitor's On-Screen-Menu and see if it has a mode change available to go from DisplayPort-1.2 to 1.3; as it would need to be set to 1.3 to allow 144Hz.

In the windows thing I can set it to 60, 100, 120, 144 using a DVI-D, with Displayport I had the option to set it to all of the ones listed earlier plus 59 and 50. I have tried enabling Vsync, and it caps the game at 144FPS, but I am getting just as much screen tearing as on my old monitor. And neither of my friends that use 144hz had any issues getting vsynctester and testufo to 144hz, but mine is stuck at 60 on there.

Well yea, don't use VSync, period. If you do, only use Adaptive in NVIDIA-CP.
That is about as close to GSync as it comes and should be alot better overall compared to an older 60Hz Display. Some games that are locked at 30 or 60 FPS might still experience screen-tearing.

If you getting 144Hz w/ VSync; then it is running at 144Hz for sure.

Again check all the Display's OSD Menu settings. Most monitors come locked into a crap-tastic Demo Mode until u change it manually.

Yeah I realized that, seems to be superior to the windows one anyways. The on-screen menu does not specify what cable I am using (at least I can't find it) but it does however say V.Frequency 143hz. Any way to check what version of the cable it is?

The Windows one is for your Desktop Only

If you are getting mixed results; go buy the latest spec DisplayPort Cable.

Can get DisplayPort 1.3 ~ 6 to 10 ft cable on Amazon for under $10

It still looks identical to my 60hz secondary monitor (unplugged for now, don't worry). I even tried recording mouse movement at 1/8th speed and it was the same at both refresh rates, unfortunately.

Make sure the Game runs at full-screen; otherwise any sort of Windowed Mode will rely on using the Windows Desktop's Refresh Rate.

But all that aside, if unhappy; call their support. If still unhappy, return it.

OP here on my other account, and now in-game. Enabling adaptive vsync seems to have made it way better, I do not know if this could be considered a "real" test (I am new to the subject) but setting the max FPS to 61, makes it tear a lot and there is a huge difference from setting max FPS to unlimited and having Nvidia CP cap it at 145FPS feels a lot better.
Bad 💀 Motha Dec 26, 2015 @ 5:12pm
I would not cap it those ways; you can use apps like MSI Afterburner and then enable the OSD features in Afterburner setting to get RivaTuner to load up; then use RivaTuner to cap the FPS if u want using the Framerate Lock/Limit option.

It turns out the same, I am now positive that it is set to above 60hz, and it was most likely the nvidia CP options that made it better, thanks a lot sir!
