AMD R9 290X OR R9 390X
Hello i need some advice i will be getting a MSI GS30 Shadow and will be getting a 8GB GPU and i was wondering if I should get the AMD R9 290X OR 390X

The 290X is $100 less but uses 375w of power but the 390X only 275w and i'll be worknig with only 425w supply for GPU. The CPU has it's own power supply so it's not an issue.

So which one would you all recommed i get?

The 390X is a little better than the 290X. It is the same chip, but simply tweaked a bit for slightly better performance.

Here is the performance difference.

Ok thanks 390X it is
GET A GTX970 :):steamhappy:
I am i will only use it for gaming i'm manly getting a 390X for Autodesk and other gpu intensive rendering then I will eventually upgrade to fire pro
Rendering on a Radeon is crap; better off using a CUDA core NVIDIA GPU.
I've had way to many bad experiences with cuda rendering vs Radeon don't get me wrong i like nvidia but there over hype in a lot of area's especially Autodesk plus if i was to do that's i only got two options that Titan and Quadro and both get beat by 295x2 and fire pro and in the case of fire pro half the cost. but i do see what you're trying say it's just I've been there and done that not worth the price especially when you just bought a $3,000 card and a driver update bricks it not to say that doesn't happen with AMD it just doesn't happen that often with AMD and at least they fix it

Depends on the apps I suppose. Many do not like any other GPUs besides NVIDIA CUDA

misinformed / possible fanboy statement.

I do CAD and other Rendering ok; a majority of them will not run on AMD GPUs; or they render at like ridiculously low FPS and overall processing times.

Been doing this sh!t for 20 years; if you have something helpful to contribute and/or suggest, by all means. But a spam statement is pointless.

Like the previous comnenter has stated it depends on the app. If it uses opencl it stomps all over cuda. With your supposed 20 years of experience you would know this. Just saying.

I can agree witth Bad-Motha...

Doing telecom for years... not as many as Bad-Motha, but enough to know that Nvidia GPU's are typically better for CAD and similar apps.

OpenCL is great and all; but then u are limited to rendering with a single GPU only.
CUDA, not the case.

It is obvious that it depends on your overall needs.
If the app only does well with regards to OpenCL support, then and AMD GPU will be better, yes.

You should get a better PSU for these cards or get something that uses less power like a GTX 970 or R9 380X. Those should be fine with your PSU. The 390X can use up to 421.20W at max power consumption. I would get a 650W or 750W for that card.

{COLLEGAMENTO RIMOSSO}

I seen another site report a tested 390X use a max of 477W.
