Recommended fan/heatsink for overclocking an i7-4790k?
Could anyone mind give me some suggestions for a fan/heatsink that can be used to account for overclocking a (future) i7-4790k? Not too much just from the initial 4.0 Ghz to possibly 4.4 or 4.7

Please no liquid cooling. Im not comfortable/skilled enough to install them and wouldn't want to rekt my build by experimenting

Using an NZXT Phantom with (I think) 5 or 6 fans so the internal temps are good. About 36c currently.

Just need a proper fan and heatsink that isnt too large that it blocks airflow, but also enough to be better than the stock fan.

Some of these coolers you all linked aren't in stock anymore. Can anyone recommend a good air cooler for overclocking the i7 4790k that's not too expensive?

Well this topic is from 2015...

Best bang of the buck is the CoolerMaster Hyper 212 derivatives, just make sure you get a version compatible with your motherboard's socket, I think the Hyper212evo is from that generation.

If you want a bit more cooling capacity or better/quieter fan, the Noctua NH-U12S is pretty hard to beat at ~$60. Plus it looks pretty similar to a TRUE, so that is just nostalgia for me.

Edit- Noctua NH-U14s seems a bit better for a similar price to the NH-U12s.

Wow blast from the past!! Yeah I'm actually still using the same cooler from 2015 that I ended up buying. A Corsair H80i. Definitely recommend it if you can get it cheaper off Ebay or something.

Current idle temp is 35C and I have my 4790k consistently overclocked to 4.6ghz. The temps would be even less if it wasn't overclocked or if I bothered to clean the radiator

Hate to burst your bubble, but the H80i isn't a good cooler, you can get much better and cheaper air solutions, 120-140mm AIOs simply aren't worth it.

Also, idle temps mean ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, that's like me saying the temperature of my mug before I put boiling water in it; it's not going to tell you anything.

It was cheap when I bought it at the time. If I remember it was around $59.99. This post was necroed from 2015, so at the time it was a good deal. Decent bang for buck.

Under load I get around 50c. So it’s pretty decent m8.
No even back in 2015 it wasn't worth it. It's cooling performance is way behind other coolers at the same or lower price.

With Temps there many factors that will have an influence.
212 can do as good as h80 or other clc with 120mm rad

for a heafty oc, 240/280 or larger clc or a custom loop

nh d15 was one of the top air coolers that can match a 240mm clc
