The RT button registers input when I press the LT button
When I press the LT button on my controller, the RT button registers input (meaning it acts as if I'm also pressing the RT button). I've tried recalibrating the controls in Steam, and it seems to help for a short time, but it eventually goes back to doing this. Nothing appears to be physically wrong with my controller, so I'd like to know if anyone has a possible fix, other than buying a new controller and hoping that this glitch doesn't happen.

Take the controller all apart and clean it with contact cleaner spray

what controller?

xbone use hall sensors for the triggers

I also don't even see how that is possible since LT and RT triggers are half of an axis; and they are opposites of one another. However this could be a conflict of sorts if you have Steam Input enabled.

I take my controllers apart and clean them every 6 months or so. I have original Xbox360 controllers that still work just like new. Now sure the sticks aren't as good as they used to be "jumping back to center" but these can helped by lubing the internal joysticks on the PCB with Silicon Lube Spray. And I have had to put height addons onto the sticks because the original rubber wore off. But overall for controllers I have in my inventory they easily got over 1K-5K hours worth of use and are well over 10 years old. I'd have to say they are still doing quite well.

You can't just buy any controller and never take it apart and clean it, and expect it to last. Especially if it's a primary controller that gets many hours of usage.

last I checked the switches are both on the physical PCB inside the controller... so if your left and right are getting mixed up there's something crossing them... unless you've got it messed up in software somehow.

I'd say 99% of the time it's a software issue.
Many of these folks have no idea about Steam Input being on or off, what it does and how it should never be on if the game has native controller support. It can create a double input issue.

depends on the input type
they can share an axis, like rudder control on joysticks, or act independently, depending on how the game is asking its inputs

I mean, I assume were talking about the standard xbox gamepad that 99.999999% of people already have and use?

otherwise I'd still say something got spilled on it... unless it's got a 1+1 input on the pads and the +1 is broken.... but that would be ridiculous.

the x360 can be separate inputs, they still use xinput or dinput

Well until the OP tells us which Controller it is exactly...
_I_ Aug 11, 2024 @ 10:17pm
its been a while, the x360 do use a pot for the triggers

if those go bad, i dont think there are any aftermarket replacements for them

but again, it could also be low battery, that can cause drift on other axis when one is used
its the pots use 3.3 dividing voltage, if the +3.3 dips some, it will lower all voltages at the center divide, or peak for r/l triggers

its normally about $40-50 for genuine ms controllers new shipped from ms
they will drift after about a year or two of daily use

looks like the powera xbone clone uses non standard pots for the triggers just like the x360
if the trigger pot is drifting, there is no fix other than to buy a new controller
