Low fps on gtx 1060 6gb Palit
Hi i just got (you can say it) a new pc with intel I3-4160, gtx 1060 6gb, 16gb ram, 4TB of Hard Disk and 512gb of SSD. But for some reason when i play Dota 2 the fps is so much lower then my previous pc that had intel xeleron E5620 with GTS 450 and 8 GB of ram. I tried everything. Literally everything. The game on my old pc was ruunning at around 100-110 fps (low settings), but now somehow runs from 50-80 fps on the same exact settings. Can u help me, cause i know for sure that the should be running way better.

Are you still running the same screen resolution or did you get a new monitor?

Make sure the game is on the SSD and not the HDD

Yeah, everything is the same.

4th gen i3 is probably the bottleneck

if the gpu is not at 90-100% load, the cpu is limiting it

the E5620 is much better than the i3 4160

i3 = 2 cores + ht, 3.6ghz no turbo or boost clocks
xeon = 4 cores + ht, 2.4-2.66ghz

its older and newer games do need more than 2 cores and dont make much use of ht

older games that only need 1-2 cores would be better with the newer i3 since it has faster cores
but newer games that need 3+ cores will be better with the xeon or i5/i7 than the i3

The i3 4160 is a pretty dang weak processor that's by no means new. It's older than D.O.T.A. 2 by a year, and of course an i3 is a low tier product. Even as low spec. as the game is, I wouldn't necessarily expect it to run much better than you're experiencing now.

I'd try upgrading the machine to a 4690k. That chip is still somewhat serviceable going by minimum spec of some recent games. Here's on on ebay for just about 5.66 euro plus shipping.[www.ebay.com] That'd at least move you up to the upper mid-tier of the generation.

The i3 has higher single core performance than the E5620 but it's also only a dual core CPU, could easily be limiting the performance of the 1060

how did you get that i3 pc?
hopefully for free and not bought...
do you have a budget and how is your second hand market?
easycontrol1 8 aug, 2024 @ 1:50
A close friend of mine gave it to me. My second hand market is good i have found an i7-4470k for very good price.

i7-4770K would be ideal

You have a terrible CPU, that's the problem

It seems you didn't share with us what monitor you are using on your new computer. What resolution and refresh rate is your monitor?
Shaggin'Wagon 10 aug, 2024 @ 18:03
I went to find a youtube video of someone playing Dota 2 on a i3 4160 and what you are experiencing is correct: 50-80 fps is what you should expect from that game and that CPU. You can try turning down your settings a lot and it may help. Try the lowest possible settings and see if your FPS increases.

I can give you a working 4670k but you will have to find a way to ship it from the US........not joking
