Windows 10 is better for gaming
Windows 10 is consistently faster in many games
probably because of less bloat
It also has the same DirectX 12 API so there is no reason to get win11
if anything more people should "downgrade"

Its the bloat within the core os yea. It not new i kicked up a fuss about windows xp back in the day. It was simply faster in l4d1 on my old pc. I would create a benchmark by simply going to the same spot and triggering the horde. Every run on windows xp showed 60fps and every run on a later os would show 54.

I had 17 processes running back then. Thesr days its over 100+. Microsoft are an irreponsible custodian of gaming software and always will be until they create a dedicated gaming OS.

Linux was already better for performance because of distros having much lower system overhead, far less or no bloat at all, and the system does what you want it to do, the only downside for gaming on Linux right now is that a lot of games with anti-cheat software either runs with difficulties or won't run at all.

Modern Windows is just a joke and Microsoft is unlikely to make anything better because their bottom line is more important than the user.

agreed, ms is sitting on a huge bed of money from their user data they collect
they will never want to give that up

As for the testing, I would have preferred a wider set of resolutions and hardware, as it was Win 10 was only faster in 5 of the 13 games tested (where the focus was more on CPU performance) and even then they couldn't really explain why.

Just playing around with Win 11 at the moment and got to say that my current game - Talos Principle 2 at 1440p and Ultra settings is actually playing really well. Will try a few more before going back to Linux full time but it's not a complete disaster compared to Win 10 and I'll keep it as my alternate OS.

Faster by how much is the interesting question.

in most games, same results. with some of them having 1-3% better performance on Win10 while in some edge cases that can go to 10% better on Win10

Should people downgrade from 11 to 10? only if something doesn't work for them or there is a specific issue that is Win11 only. but otherwise performance are about the same.
I imagine that the Windows 11 install had HAGS enabled by default and that doesn't work too well across a lot of games which can affect results while 10 has access to this feature but its disabled by default.

Should people downgrade from 11 to 10?
lol why get win11 in the first place when its at best gives the same result as the older OS

10 will be going out of support in oct 2025 (for general consumers) anyway and if my machine supports 11 then might as well run the newer OS. not like i'm losing anything.

That kind of thinking is why Microsoft is able to get away with doing the crap they do with Windows, with every edition they take away more and more of users' privacy and throw in more and more bloat.

Problem is that's the case since like Win98. It's not really a secret that Windows went down in quality over the years.
Either you are on a supported release of Windows or you just move to Linux. Staying on something like 7 has its own set of challenges. and it will be the case for 10 as well in the future after it goes EoL so your choice is rather limited to 2 options.

HDR is mediocre on most monitors, forcing HDR has mixed results, and there's also Nvidia's RTX HDR if you're gonna do it anyway
