depending on the price
it might be better to upgrade to something on AM4/AM5 or 12th/13th/14th gen intel,
all depends on price but overall in games it's not going to be a "massive upgrade" or anything
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eg4MF8us3H4
here's a good video comparing your options on that board
going all the way up to a 9900k will only net you 25%~
and going to i7 9700k is about 18%~
i'm personally upgrading from that to an AM4 with a 5800x3D
since right now AM4 boards are cheap and the 5800x3D is insanely powerful
and not very much money.
upgrading this socket isn't worth the money in my country (canada)
but you may have amazing deals on used 9th gen chips so.
Are you sure that 5700x3D isn't a better deal for you? Or an Asrock AM5 board with 7800x3D?
then go for it. i don't know how much you're paying for it so.
but yeah i'm paying 250 cad for it (so about 30$ less then what a 5700x3d costs before taxes) otherwise i would have just gone with the 5700x3d.
that said though, in canada the 5800x3d is $400+ tax and the 7800x3d is $530+ tax
decent enough difference.
9700k has 8 cores 3.6-4.9ghz
neither with ht
for games that need more core performance, it will be a good jump
+700-800 mhz and 2 more cores
if the cpu is free or dirt cheap, do it
else, wait for a newer platform, where more cores and higher core performance will make a big difference
but be sure the board can give the cpu over 150w
plus in that video none of these CPU's are overclocked
here's the support list for your motherboard
https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/B360M-BAZOOKA/support#cpu
just the same socket
its that board is not quite good enough for it
probably 4+2+1, maybe 5+1+1
hopefully the 5 with heatsinks go to cpu cores
but thats 125w max to cpu cores
intel says its 95w for 9700k, but thats not using its turbo clocks
the board will be throttling it

not as big of a difference
but its a 65w cpu, will be fine in the board
it is an upgrade
still, if you can get it for free or cheap, do it
if you are looking at new
the 9700kf is 205+tax
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/LhCD4D/intel-core-i7-9700kf-36-ghz-8-core-processor-bx80684i79700kf
but the board would be limiting its performance
