Refresh rate capped at 60hz
I got a new 144hz monitor but for some reason on my PC it only shows the option for 60hz.

I have tried changing it both on windows settings and the nvidia control panel.

The monitor is a samsung odyssey G5 and it is connected by a display port cable.

Is the display port cable the one that came with the new monitor? Also, do you have the specific model number? the Odyssey G5 is a series with multiple monitors. Should be something like "LC32G55T" or similar. Or alternatively a link to the product page for the specific model you got to see what the specifications are.

If it's an older Display Port cable that isn't DP1.2 or later then you aren't going to be able to do 2,560 x 1,440 QHD @ 144Hz. You will also be limited to a lower refresh rate if you are enabling the display's HDR.

Also, try swapping to the HDMI cable that came with the display if the DP cable is the one that came with the new monitor.

Did you set it to 144 Hz in the monitor settings, not just Windows or Nvidia?
check the monitor OSD settings to unlock 144 Hz mode

in nvidia control panel, under the res section, be sure to scroll down to pc resolutions, not uhd/hd/sd section and pick the native res, then you can change the refresh rate to 144hz

I'm not the OP, and it isn't going to show you the refresh rate if the cable being used to connect the display doesn't support the bandwidth for the display's handshake at that refresh rate. I was asking those questions because it is not uncommon for people who buy a new display to just unplug their old one and use the same cable to connect the new display and they may not realize that not all HDMI and/or Display Port cables are the same.

E.g. if they had an older monitor with a Display Port 1.1 connection & cable, that cable is only going to be capable of supporting 1600x1200 @ 60Hz.
dp 1.0/1.1a can do 1080p upto 144hz

if he is running a higher res display, it will need dp 1.4 or 2.0 for higher refresh rates

The OP is talking about either a QHD or 4K display, neither of which will do more than 60Hz on DP1.0 nor 1.1 nor 1.1a

The OP isn't talking about DVI; they are using Display Port.

good remark, seems i've read it too fast .thx
Turn off HDR.
Check if your GPU DP Port is at least 1.4a.
Check if your cable is rated for 1.4a.
Make sure your monitor cable can support the bandwidth, ideally using DisplayPort cable 1.3+

Under your Monitor Menu > Games > Refresh rate > Set 144Hz

Right-click on the Windows Desktop > NVIDIA Control Panel > Change Resolution > Refresh rate > Set 144Hz. If your monitor is enabled at 144Hz, but Windows and NVIDIA has it still disable, check the cable... use DisplayPort 1.4 and ensure it's plugged into the graphics card. Ensure you have the latest NVIDIA drivers installed too. Make sure the Resolution is set as Native.

Enable G-SYNC and HDR, enjoy!
