Need a second opinion
5800x3d
Rx 7900 xtx

All I did was upgrade the psu and gpu. The temps on my primary nvme and my cpu have shot through the roof. My cpu hits 85c. My nvme hits 60c. Both up 10c compared to normal.

I'm pretty certain it's the airflow in my tower although i would like a second opinion on this.
I just dropped a 370 watt gpu in. Upgraded from a 200 watt gpu. It's generating all this extra heat that my tower cant vent quick enough. The gpu has a passthrough that's blowing loads of hot air directly at the cpu and nvme. Also I took the side panel off and temps dropped a good 5c. It also doesn't help that it's summer and ambient temps where I am are a bit high atm.

Does that sound about right? Am I on the right path here? Should I look at a new tower?

7900 XTX is hot power guzzling card, need to have good case with proper ventilation indeed.
Are these idle temperatures or under load?

But yes, sounds like an air flow problem, what case do you have and how many fans are you using?

I have the 7900XTX Nitro+ and both that and the cpu idle at around 35c-40c. For reference I have 3 fans at the front and one at the bottom of the case blowing air in, then 1 at the rear and 2 on the radiator (top of the case) blowing air out

That's load temps and under gaming. Idle is still fine. Just 10c more under load on both the cpu and nvme. Gpu itself is fine. Never goes over 70.

I have a mid tower with 2 200mm fans on the front running intake and 2 120mm fans in the top and rear venting the case. This is a small mid sized tower though and the front intake fans are choked a bit by the front pannel.

And its def air flow. I'm running the now with the side pannel off and the back patio door open and temps are good again. It's all that fresh air coming in the backdoor.
Airflow and maybe also ambient room temp. Maybe also move the Tower to an area where it can also get better airflow so that the hot air being exhausted isn't any sort of dead zone, allowing the Tower to recycle heated air back into the system. Get your ambient room down as much as you can without breaking the bank. If needed cover windows in tbat room during peak hotter periods to keep from heating up the room so much.

If needed manually crank up cpu and gpu fans or fine tune their fan curve

What is your PSU and for a real gamer PC liquid cooling is preferred, not fans for CPU.

It's to be expected because your CPU went from not being worked very hard to being pushed damn near its limit when the GPU was upgraded, plus the heat coming off of the 7900-XTX will contribute to higher temperatures inside the case which will always increase CPU temperatures with an air cooler or an AIO oriented as an exhaust.
Check the airflow inside your case. Unfortunately cheap cases are designed to look fancy, not to have good airflow, but it is often possible to improve. I did 2 trcicks in mine. 1. replaced the fans from the front (blowing air into the case) and mounted them on top to blow hot air out 2. I remounted CPU cooler to make sure it blows air from bottom to top. Just let it work with the airflow inside. I guess your GPU is blowing air from bottom to top like in my case.
Remeber that blowing air from ouside to inside does not make much good for temperature inside. Take the hot air out and don't worry about air intake. If there are enough holes iin front or bottom air will be sucked in.
Liquid cooler allows to move the heat from processor to the radiator somewhere on the case. You still need good airflow through the radiator, and it makes additional noice.

I have an XFX MERC310 RX 7900 XTX + R7 5700X3D in a CoolerMaster H500M case (2x 200mm front intake, 1x 140mm rear exhaust + 3x 120mm top exhaust thru 360mm AIO rad), with a more aggressive fan curve set in Adrenalin control panel, My card hits between 80C - 90C tops hotspot with Idle temp is around 40C, CPU temp topping out around 70C with GPU intensive games.

With a Thermaltake Water 3.0 AIO cooling my CPU, I see load temps at about 60C....in fact, highest I've seen CPU temp is about mid to high 60C running Handbrake with CPU utility at 100% in an aircon room set at about 25C. PSU is a Corsair HX1000 Platinum ...

A side note, should my AIO fail on me, I have already gotten the excellent Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 EVO to replace it, which is why I have Adrenalin OSD metrics to monitor my CPU temperature for odd high readings.

Not true, besides, tell that to the Noctua boys. Also, good HSF (heatsink fan) like Noctua, or Thermalright which I'm a big fan of, are pretty effective coolers, also bear in mind that AIO have pumps which may fail....
