stacking thermal pads is a bad idea too, its adds air gaps between them, a single pad is best
too thick can be ok, it will put extra pressure on the mosfets or ram, but less pressure on the gpu core when the cooler is installed, may warp the pcb some
just measure orig pad for a mosfet and vram when you take it apart (they will not be the same height, and gpu cooler may be shaped differently for their areas)
