new they are these prices as they are clearing out the old stock....for a used 5800x its about going rates....the 5700x3d is only a 189 dollars
The first is to look at the going rates for used 5700X/5800X CPUs, and base it off that. Maybe take a small portion off if you want to be nice for a friend.
The other is to look at pricing of new components that are the closest equivalent. The 5600 is $5 more than the offered amount, and the 5700X (closest equivalent) is $160. The 5700X3D is $190.
So they offered you $40 less for a used CPU. I'd say that's on the high end of what you should expect, since anything more is too close to make it worth it for them. $100 to $120 sounds fair to me.
Looks like a fair price based on going sold ebay listings. I see 3 that sold in may for $10 less. Maybe the price has gone up a bit since then but we had Prime day just recently so many of your would be buyers are currently enjoying brand new C.P.Us. 5800x is worth more as brand new of course, but realistically pop's not going to use that amount of processing power.
Seems to be a losing deal though. Ryzen 5800x is selling for $185 brand new right now.
Imagine you just bought one and he offered you this deal: Then we're looking at you losing $65 sunken just by taking this offer. Then you're reinvesting spending $115 just to get part way back to where you were. Seems like you lose $180 worth of here and now value by taking this deal.
That's possibly overthinking it though, and fact of the matter is that the 5800x is better in the hands of a gamer, whereas the 5600gt with its integrated vega graphics is better in the hands of somebody who's just doing his emails and doesn't need a dedicated graphics card sucking down wattage on the electric bill. Might be better for pops. to have a new processor too because it's warranted, although good luck proving that the processor broke if it ever actually comes down to exercising warranty rights.
Your Dad would most likely be fine with a Ryzen 5500G then
100-120 sounds more accurate, given NEW in the box they go for around 160-165 now
