PC vs Console

I read an article that the latest XBOX One claims that using FSR can enable the console to get 4k resolutions @120fps and the PS5 was not far behind each unit cost around $500, hows does the GPU community account for paying over $1000 to reach the same performance levels?

Perhaps there is truth in this because last time I owned a console was the PS3 and it stayed viable until about 2013 when PS4 appeared so 2013 - 2006 = 7 years but if I remember that system continued until 2015 or something.

Im not sure of the release date for the latest consoles but they still seem to be going strong and there is no title on steam they cannot play once adapted for the console system.

consoles do lots of cheats and tricks to do that

dynamic res scaling, games optimized to run on their specific hardware (all consoles of that type share the exact same specs)
different builds of the game are designed to run on each console type/rev

an orig launch xbox one, can cloud stream 1080p60 games designed for xb series
also ports x360 games are ported to work on x1/xs

It’s up to individual people to analyse the offer and pick a better one.

I still prefer PC gaming for more premium experience.

Console marketing is full of deception. They said the PS5 was 8k 120hz on the box? They are quoting what pong would play like in theory.

No games in reality ever go past 1440p/60fps. Most of them are 1440p/30fps roughly. Thats not going to change what is changing will be power and Raytracing. Console owners backed themselves into a corner where they accepted 30fps and things like checkerboard rendering. Its smoke and mirrors. Now OP you are trying to be smart but its not the consoles are actually weedy and pretty crappy.


Also PC doesnt pay twice, That 1000 figure is fake... a budget pc build can do what a console can. Infact better with a used market and a bigger game library... PC gamera dont lose thier games every new generation either. So a in all the $500 pc wins.

I think with Xbox live and the PlayStation alternative you get a pretty decent experience considering PC Game pass is almost the same as Xbox live.

but the new consoles require subscription service to play online games

and many variants do not have odd (optical disk drives) so the only way to purchase games is through their online store

if you compare game prices/sales from xbox/ps and steam, steam is almost always cheaper
but there are other places to buy pc games too, gog, humblebundle etc.. which does make pc game prices more competitive

I think in you take into consideration all factors for a $500 PC including everything you need to run it you will most likely end up with a RX550-RX580 or equivalent as a GPU and spec wise is no way near what Xbox One and PS5 claim as possible.

If you want to play the most demanding games like The Last of Us, Alan Wake or Avatar then it’s impossible to build a $400 PC that can compete with ps5. Even with $800 budget it could be challenging.

But if you can afford the hardware or are patient enough to wait for price drops you can exceed the ps5 image quality and performance.

Pick what works best for you.

Xbox One is a past generation console. Even though the Xbox One X was quite powerful at the time, it doesn't run the newest games. You might mistake the Xbox One for the Xbox Series X.
