3840x1600 HDR600 UW or 3840x2160 Dolby Vision QD-OLED 4K?
Give it to me straight.

I'm looking at the Alienware AW3225QF.

I have the AW3821DW @ 144hz 3840x1600 currently as my main screen. I was considering buying the AW3225QF for the Dolby Vision and QD-OLED quality as a secondary monitor to view my HDR/DV Content.

Heck, I may even make the 4K Monitor my main if its a game changer that everyone tells me QD-OLED is. But thats where I need the raw unfiltered Steam Community.

Is the 4K worth it or should I just not buy it and stick with the Ultra Wide AW3821DW?

UW 1440p or 1600p every time.
4K is 16:9 and still rubbish unless you have a 4090

High refresh rates matters too

The 4K is 240hz. My UW is 144hz. I have a 4090, generally a very beefy system all together.

I know its not a smart buy, but man, I can only imagine what a Dolby Vision HDR gaming sesh would look like on a QD-OLED.

4K > UW, HDR is a gimmick scam, you can alter Saturation of Color from Video Driver.
You're buying 4K for a bigger, better res. image. I find UW weird, quirky and small.

I have NEVER owned a 4K Monitor. But going from 1080p -> to this current 3840x1600 was an incredible experience. I am hoping the 4K transition will be just as amazing, if not for just the QD-OLED.

Nor have I ever experienced Dolby Vision or HDR Trueblack 400 (which is supposedly HDR1000 and then some), since my monitors are not great for HDR...

But that's for Movies and Consoles hooked to a TV. There is no "pros" to that on a PC.
It's not different then those 4K TVs that "say" that do this refresh rate, which is generally "fake" because it's only for Shows/Moveis/Game Consoles and never for a PC because of how the internal extra processing works to create that "fake" 120 FPS off of 30 or 60 Hz. It makes shows/movies look smoother via a digital filter. It doesn't have any "pros" when it comes to hooking up a PC.

HDR again, is for Shows/Movies/Consoles; so the user doesn't have to fiddle with RGB settings and such. On a PC you want that option. You don't want HDR on a PC.

Judging by RTings, It seems to be the best Monitor on the Market next to that monster G9 by Samsung.

Another reason for me is to just to view my 500TB of Dolby Vision/HDR Media on my NAS. I don't own a DV TV, but I do own a OLED TV. So I am hoping that will blow me away.

I splurged and bought it. I hope I didn't make a mistake.

I have an HDR-400 and turned it off for 2 reasons:
1) HDR makes the colors unreal and overly saturated, cartoonish.
2) HDR only operates in 8-bit color density, 10-bit is available in my current system if SDR set.

HDR400 is a complete scam, it is not real HDR. HDR600 is a scam, HDR1000 is where HDR starts to shine based off the things I have read from RTings, Toms Hardware and the like. And from what I've gathered, HDR True Black 400 is at the HDR1000 level.

I have the HDR on my LG Turned off because of how bad HDR400 looks.

I will say that this Dolby Vision HDR with my calibration tool (Spyder-X Pro) and I can safely say that *this* is how HDR should look. It blows away both my other Monitors when watching my Media. But some games look kind of off.

It's ALL a scam there is no Good HDR. It's a gimmick to get you to buy a new monitor.
HDR is for Consoles, not PCs
Yes it's 100% dumb... if you are a PC Gamer.

The reason for it is because on Consoles most of the control is on the TV for everything. On PC most of that is on the PC via the OS and GPU settings. And with PC it's easy to fine tune everything to look correct or better then default.

HDR is just a dummies button for Console users.

Unfortunately, after using this QD-OLED for the past 2 days, seeing and comparing HDR to my UW, I can safely say you are both wrong but equally some people don't like HDR, and thats okay. I know people hate UW, but I believe UW is a beautiful thing.

But with Dolby Vision? Thats for Consoles, and specifically only Xbox X. Because while It is enabled, it will revert to HDR1000 or HDR True Black (depending on what you set on the OSD). Although Dolby does have a growing Library of games that do in fact use Dolby Vision.

Also, HDR Media from my Plex is so good after clibration that Its like im watching an entirely different show.

My fully calibrated QD-OLED with my Spyder-X Pro makes me never want to use a non-HDR/OLED again. Its disgusting the difference between the two.

Best $1700 after tax I've spent on my PC since my 4090. I now understand why on the OLED subreddit, they say you don't believe it till you try it, and then you never want to go without it.

I will be waiting for a true 4K (I think it would be called 5K tho? I remember reading on RTings) UltraWide OLED at this point to replace my UW, but for now, the 4K is my new main monitor.
