Want to up my refresh rate on my monitor
I have a Koorui 27e6qc monitor on paper it is 1440p at 144hz , this is true I've had at that for a while then one day I decided to go in depth with my pc I just built (here's the breakdown)
B550 vdh pro MoBo
Ryzen 5 5600x
Vengeance 32gb 3600 (2x16)
OC 4060 8gb
2tb nvme ssd x2
2.5 2tb ssd (sata connected)
Now this is not a big deal but I only have the option for 2k or 4k at 60hz as well as 1080 at 60 or lower any resolution lower than 1080 I have the option to choose 144 now I've tried threw nvidia app tried my settings and for some reason my monitor settings is on 4k haven't figured out how to change that but I will be taking a look soon so if any input on how to do this 144 from 60 at 1440 would be nice hear and know 🤙🤙🤙🤙

your cable limits speed. you also need drivers to use higher speeds when using hdmi. windows 8.1 and newer checks compatible frequencies through the drivers when using hdmi and with no drivers it is automatically capped at 60 hz. displayport is different. there is still a limit on the cable however.
No one runs Windows on generic drivers (Stupid to do anyway)
And you have to use very VERY old cables and ports to have a serious speed limit.

And if the monitor has DisplayPort and HDMI in the same time, you really should use the display port.

Like if you have HDMI 1.4 support, you should be able to do 1080p 120Hz or something like that. (I'm not interested in calculating how many hertz the monitor can outpud because of an old port. It is stupid. 10-20$ for a new cable)
HDMI 1.4 only allows up to 75Hz for 1440p 8-bit and 60Hz for 1440p 10-bit, it's only enough for 144Hz at 1080p 8-bit and 120Hz at 1080p 10-bit, and 1.4 is the max supported by the monitor. So you're right, no calculations needed, they're most likely trying to use HDMI instead of DP.

Whereas DisplayPort version 1.2 which is the max supported version by the monitor, allows up to 170Hz at 1440p for 8-bit, 120Hz for 10-bit.

Just STOP using HDMI for PCs; save that for when you want to maybe connect to a Projector, TV, or make use of a VR Headset that uses HDMI. All PC users should have already been using Displays via DP for a decade now. If not, well you've been going about using a PC all wrong. More-so the case if you want high refresh rates above approx 100-120Hz

Aim for a 1440p Display in either 16:9 or 21:9 that has 240Hz refresh rate, FreeSync Premium, VRR, MBR, and is meant to be used on PC via DP.

i need to use hdmi on my laptop, because it only have hdmi and vga. my newest laptop have displayport but, my tv does not so, i need to use hdmi there. my 2 desktops however do use displayport when connected to a monitor. the gtx 650 ti boost however only have 1 displayport so, i need to use hdmi for one monitor. on my other desktop i use hdmi only to connect to my tv.

Well that's the problem, you have a Laptop. Get a Desktop to enjoy the good things.

Not only that but a REALLY OLD Laptop that was never meant to do what we've been doing the last few years.

Laptops have mostly become junk unless you spend about $1500+ most of the time.

Even my 2011 Laptop w/ GT 555M had a full sized DP on it.

Now you have to ensure the Laptop has Thunderbolt / USB 3.2 / USB 4.0 that can output Video via DP via Type-C port.

i do have a desktop but, it uses too much power and makes my livingroom hot. that is why i am using my laptop. it uses less power and generates less heat.

The games can't be much if you are able to run them fine on such an old Laptop w/ GT/GTX 6xx series. That's so old most games nowa days wouldn't even run on that; or the FPS would be so low it would make playing on such specs pointless/useless.

Perhaps your DP cable is not really capable of DP 1.4; and thus could be why you do not get those proper 144Hz options at the native res such as 1440p

While that should still be fine to do even if the DP cable is rated for 1.2 I think; it could be a detection problem between the Monitor and GPU causing this issue for you.

Some Monitors you can actually select the DP Spec Mode; such as 1.3, 1.4, etc. or leave it on Auto.

I would simply go buy a decent DP Cable and try that and see if that fixes your issue.

Folks, Nvidia switched to H.D.M.I. 2.0 by the time Maxwell rolled around. I know because that was one of the features that drew me to buy a GTX 970. I wanted 4k 60hz over H.D.M.I. A subsequent Pascal card like a GTX 1060 should have H.D.M.I. 2.0[www.techpowerup.com].

H.D.M.I. 2.0 supports a 144hz refresh rate at 2560x1440 resolution with 4:4:4 chroma subsampling[www.anker.com].

The card should be able to pull it off where it has the grunt power. Might depend on the brand though[forums.tomshardware.com].

Doesn't help if the monitor only supports 144hz over displayport, but I thought it'd be worth mentioning nevertheless.

RTX 4060 is not powerful enough to do 144 fps in 1440p anyway unless it`s some really old game. For something like that you would be looking for RTX 4070 Super, 4070 Ti Super.

You'd be surprised at just how low spec. the popular e-sports titles are. You could probably pull it off in Fortnite.

Just an FYI: They didn't mention a laptop in the original first post of this thread because andreasaspenberg575 didn't start this thread. Someone else did.

You know. I just thought of something. The Koorui 27E6QC[koorui.co.uk] is supposed to support H.D.M.I. 2.0, but some monitors only have a single H.D.M.I. 2.0 port, and this model is among those. Fixing this problem might be as simple as changing into which port the H.D.M.I. cord is plugged. I should have remembered that sooner. It's worth a shot since it's free to just change which ports the cable is plugged into and maybe restart the computer.

You might have to change the G.P.U. side too if it has more than one H.D.M.I. port. Both sides need to be on H.D.M.I. 2.0 compliant ports.

>_< I missed that. To be fair, both names start with the letter A and end in a number[www.sciencealert.com].

The Monitor and GPU has 1x HDMI; so what's even your point here?

I'm a little confused because I see
This
https://www.koorui.net/productinfo4.html
And this
https://koorui.co.uk/product/koorui-qhd-27-inch-curved/

Same model but different specs.

And if the resolution and hertz don't show themselves as an option, then the worst case is to enter them yourself.

it may have different revs, tv and display mfgs do that all the time
same models with different main/tcon/power boards or even different panels
