Want to up my refresh rate on my monitor

I have a Koorui 27e6qc monitor on paper it is 1440p at 144hz , this is true I've had at that for a while then one day I decided to go in depth with my pc I just built (here's the breakdown)
B550 vdh pro MoBo
Ryzen 5 5600x
Vengeance 32gb 3600 (2x16)
OC 4060 8gb
2tb nvme ssd x2
2.5 2tb ssd (sata connected)
Now this is not a big deal but I only have the option for 2k or 4k at 60hz as well as 1080 at 60 or lower any resolution lower than 1080 I have the option to choose 144 now I've tried threw nvidia app tried my settings and for some reason my monitor settings is on 4k haven't figured out how to change that but I will be taking a look soon so if any input on how to do this 144 from 60 at 1440 would be nice hear and know 🤙🤙🤙🤙

Check your monitor's manual on the website from the company that made it, and scroll down near the last pages to check supported refresh rates at different connections. Typically most monitors that support 1440p @ 144 hz can only do it over Displayport. If you're using HDMI Then that's probably why you can't select 1440p @ 144.

And before you ask: If your monitor only supports 1440p @ 144 over displayport then no you can not use a hdmi-to-displayport adapter. It must be direct displayport only from video card to monitor.

DDU wipe the Displays and GPU in safe mode, reboot and install latest NVIDIA GPU driver and reboot then make these changes in NVIDIA CP. Make sure you connect via DisplayPort

This is extra work and not required. We should never have to change the resolution in the nvidia control panel. As long as they use the correct cable connection type that their monitor requires then the windows display settings should be able to select the correct resolution. No need to waste time changing drivers or do it the backwards way like that.

different cables have different limits, wether hdmi or displayport. you need a cable that supports what you want to use.

use dp, not hdmi

open nvidia control panel, in the res section, find its native res in the 'pc' section, not 'uhd/hd/sd' section
then it will have the option for 120-144hz

Again for the second time this is NOT necessary and is quite backwards. Just right click on the windows desktop -> Display settings -> set it in there. If it's not detected correctly in windows display settings then something is wrong somewhere.

1. Make sure you use DP and not HDMI, as the 27E6QC only supports HDMI 1.4 and DisplayPort 1.2, the former of which only supports up to 75Hz at 2560x1440, whereas the latter supports up to 170Hz at 1440p.

(Technically they can go higher but that requires custom resolutions, these ratings are rounded down based on typical monitor specifications you would normally see on the market. Running in 10-bit colour also lowers the supported refresh rate by the cable.)

2. Make sure you check the display settings in Windows as well and not just NVIDIA Control Panel/NV App as sometimes Windows can just default to 60Hz even when the display supports much higher refresh rates. It's quite annoying, Windows should always set the maximum supported refresh rate of a display by default.

RTX 4060 is not powerful enough to do 144 fps in 1440p anyway unless it`s some really old game. For something like that you would be looking for RTX 4070 Super, 4070 Ti Super.

but refresh rate is not fps
with vsync it can limit fps
or gsync/freesync can lower refresh rate to match fps

i am running in 120 hz on my gtx 770m. that is the limit of that pc. my rtx 2080 ti runs in 144 hz on the same monitor.

Sure the 144 Hz monitor still works with even 30 fps but it`s not gone be as smooth as with 100+ fps.

hz and fps is not the same. i ran in 100 fps on 60 hz once. they are entirely separate.

Yes but 100 FPS on a 60hz screen will still feel slow and laggy. 100 FPS on a 144hz screen will feel fast, smooth, and fluid.

That's why you buy a Display with DisplayPort and FreeSync Premium and then you can do GSync with your Games.

4060 is better suited for 1080p though

You want at least a 3080 for 1440p
