will a new cpu increase my fps

i currently got a AMD Ryzen 5 5600 paired with a rx 7800xt would upgrading my cpu to a ryzen 5 7600x cpu increase my fps. I would be gaming at 1440p or 4k

if gpu at or close to 95+100%, then cpu upgrade will make no difference

Pointless to buy new motherboard and RAM for small gain like that. 7800X3D would at least make some sense.

yes it will increase frame rates....the question is how much.....in some loads the 7600x is 50% faster then the 5600x in things like GEEKBENCH but only a 30% increase in Cinebench.......

real world some games will see increases other games will see no gains.....but with that said going up to a 7800X3D would be the better option long term and give you the biggest gains......

YES your current CPU is bottlenecking games but only really the newest ones.....if you were playing something like BF 2042 you would see gains.....

Higher demand on the GPU (higher settings, resolution, etc.) means that the CPU isn't going to be the primary system bottleneck for gaming, it usually falls on the GPU and getting a better CPU may not even show tangible benefits depending on the system and game.

1440p or 2160p would be higher demand on GPU. Honestly I'd return or sell that GPU and get 7900 XT or XTX. The CPU would be fine at higher res and be much more GPU bound as long as the game in question is not CPU demanding such as the TOTAL WAR series or similar cpu demanding games.

Its impossible to say really. Per game varys you would need to run intel presentmon and see where the bottleneck is. The tool can show you if there is a bottleneck and what component is doing it.


I would say you may see a very small increase but your gpu is only midrange anyways. If you had a 7900xtx then sure you would be told to get a 7800x3d chip.

I am on two AM4 rigs, as I don't intend to go AM5, do I upgraded to a 5700X3D with an R9 5900X in my 2nd rig, which would last me for the next few years. The 5700X3D would be less of a CPU bottleneck for my card in certain CPU intensive games.

With OP's present setup of an R5 5600 + RX 7800 XT, the CPU would be good enough to handle most game at decent enough framerate and PQ, so I don't see a need to splurge on a new platform.

you need to run monitoring software when in game.....then see if the monitoring software is reporting a 100% CPU usage or a 100% GPU usage......100% CPU its the CPU bottlenecking you in THAT GAME..(its going to be a per game bases).....100% GPU load is perfect and shows only the GPU is the bottleneck.....

MSI after burner is a good option as it will show graphs....but there are many out there.....
