Feedback for BIOS Update for 0x129 Micropatch
Heya, i wanted to start this discussion to see if people updated their BIOS, mainly due to Intels fault and their 0x129 update.
I didn't update mine yet (MSI Pro Z690 A-Wifi), wanted to hear peoples experiences & thoughts first.

Would be neat if people would comment their expeirences and wisdom and whatnot :D

Performance pretty much the same for my PC, no crashes as of yet. i9-13900K, Gigabyte Z790 UD AC, 96GB DDR5-5200 CL40

put it on overclock.net
they have a much larger community for specific cpus and boards

The latest non beta bios seems ok. Need to update both the intel me drivers and the bios. Need to use intel default settings. Went through and changed some settings to intel recommended from auto. Installed bios 1 day ago.

I've seen a couple of bits of bad news. One is that the fix may only work with default power settings[www.theregister.com]. The other is this video kind of confirming that entitled Intel Microcode Update Broke My Computer!

Finally I think somebody else was claiming extreme memory profiles were disabled on their motherboard. That's all the bad news I've seen. I don't have raptor lake parts myself.

Updated my MSI B760M Mortar Wifi motherboard with their newest bios and it screwed up the motherboard so bad I had to RMA it. I bought a gigabyte motherboard since I wasn't going to wait for the fix. Their bios update messed with the M.2 SSD slots ability to read from, it became silly slow and would not let you change anything at all in the bios. I think they released the wrong one for the board, they have THREE different models of the B760M Mortar now. MSI frekin geniuses...i used to solely use them because i have never had a problem with them before.

Thanks for sharing your experiences guys. I updated mine yesterday, apart from resetting XMP profiles and adding those new Intel settings, everything seems fine on my end so far.
Took pictures of all settings before and changed set to MSI Unlimited Performance or whatever it's called (due to watercooling).

If you changed your setting to msi unlimited performance you might have undone all the intel settings/safeties meant to avoid the issues? Cpu model? See what the v core max voltage gets up to in hwinfo or hwmonitor app while gaming, etc....

XMP being reset is a side effect of the BIOS settings being reset to default.

After playing Ready or Not & The First Descendant for few hours, VCore went max to 0.758V

Not sure if that's right or not, never really tinkered with undervolting etc. i'm not too keen on these things i'm afraid.

CPU is a I9-13900KF

Edit: The only thing i lowered was my RAM Speeds to 4800, since my CPU doesnt support DDR5 6000MHz

I'd still run a MemTest86+ just to ensure it isn't degraded. I personally have DDR5-5200 but I have a lot of RAM and cheap 48GBx2 kits don't go above 5200MT/sec.

what cpu?
14900k, intel guarantees ddr5 will work at 5600 (if the ram has jdec spec for it)
https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/236773/intel-core-i9-processor-14900k-36m-cache-up-to-6-00-ghz.html

most ram cant be overclocked if that is what you were trying to do
but you can swap freq for timings

memtest86+ or windows memory test are best to figure out if the ram and cpu are stable at those speeds/timings/voltage

bad ram is very rare, more likely to be a problem with the cpu or mobo if its failing, and set to its xmp/spd profiles

Cpu detail pages usually state the base ram speed but can run the higher speed ram. There's a few exceptions but they are rare. Ram speed is more likely limited by the mainboard specs. 6000 should be fine. Run 5600 on mine no issues.

For the ddr5 version of the mainboard it's 6400+(OC) , 6200(OC) , 6000(OC) , 5800(OC) , 5600(JEDEC) , 5400(JEDEC) , 5200(JEDEC) , 5000(JEDEC) , 4800(JEDEC) MHz

For v core voltage see if it goes above 1.35v then maybe think about settings. 1.35v should be safe. Above 1.45 probably try to reduce it? 1.4v max 1.35v preferred max?? Basically the short very fast voltage spikes can go above the safe zone but don't want it to stay there. V core ~1.3v is the base but will likely spike above that for very short periods. So if gaming and the v core voltage spikes hit 1.35v then no issue. The game you chose didn't really stress the cpu very much at all maybe try another game?

I held off on the (beta) x129 update (MSI Pro B760 VC WIFI II). I do have the x125 without issue. Running 14700F
