Tell him to get GTX 1660 Super or better.
7970 is not too far off from performance from a 1050 ti
but what the 1050 does with 75w destorys the 250w 7970
they are basically swapping core count for core performance and ram bandwidth for ram speed
Good luck finding them in store when they are released. The 3080, and 3090 were sold out in 5 mins.
What is your friends budget? The 7970 is ancient.
many are warranty exchanges for gpu upgrades
pick store location at the top

I check everyday. None of them are in stock in my region. Scalpers are selling them double or triple the price. Plus some stores, are charging 900 to 1000 for them.
Kudos for you for obtaining them, but i had no such luck. And i'm not prepared to pay 200 to 300 extra over the MSRP.
And i agree, the 3060 whenever it comes out will be snatched up like its big brothers were so something more readily available would be best.
7970 isnt an upgrade
And it has 1GB VRAM less than the 1050 Ti
More of a downgrade
The power requirements by itself kinda makes it a downgrade
He should save up for a more direct upgrade.
Yeah we came to that conclusion
