7900xtx freezing?
I have a saphire 7900xtx *new 2 weeks old gpu. The issue is that I get a lot of freezes with this card. So much so like every 5 min. From what I am reading online at the AMD forum ist caused by crap drivers. So anyone own one of these 7900xtx gpu and have freezing? What vrand is your gpu.

I have the 7900XTX Sapphire Nitro+, assuming it's the same card as yours

Great card but absolutely terrible drivers, the latest driver (24.5.1 I think) crashes out Ghost of Tsushima despite being apparently optimised for the game. Also recently bought the Kingdom Hearts pack (now refunded) which point blank refuses to work on any AMD 7000 series cards, once again constant crashes

I rolled back to 24.4.1 and have had no problems with it as yet, I recommend installing that driver if you're on the newest one. Is it all games you're having issues with or just a particular one?
How do you know it's the GPU freezing? Are you still getting sound? Can you tell if you're getting inputs? Voice chat still working etc?

Or is it the whole PC freezing? Like you have to turn it off to get it to work again?

The AMD drivers are fine as far as I know. Although this wasn't the case throughout history. I believe there's nothing wrong with new drivers, though.

So, I'm guessing your computer has been acting up for the last two weeks, hence the blame on the new GPU. However, to prep your system for a new GPU upgrade, you must first inspect your PSU. The PSU will determine whether or not a GPU upgrade will operate without stability issues.

This is especially going to be true if your system was fine before adding the GPU.
I have the 7900xtx Sapphire Pulse. A bit worse than Nitro+ but no RGB what I like.

No freezes for me or any other drivers problem. I’m actually impressed how the GPU is slowly getting faster with new drivers.

I’ve heard some models had problems with faulty cooling. GPU could look fine at 70C but the junction temp could hit 105C and thermal throttling.

Luckily for me I have no problems so far and I’m personally super happy with the GPU.
7900XTX user here, no issues here, the only game that doesn't like AMD drivers is Darktide, but other then that i haven't encountered crashes or driver issues.

First of all try some older drivers like 24.4.1 or 24.5.1 to rule out whether it's a driver issue or not.

If it's the same situation and you haven't OC'd or modified the GPU from stock settings then i would recommend you to RMA the card for a new one.

Did you build the PC yourself? If your card is a 2X8pin to PSU model are you using seperate power cables or daisy chaining them with 2 connector pieces on the same cable to the PSU?

Did you run other HW tests already? You're sure that it's the GPU? Or are you assuming that it's the GPU? Did you have a Nvidia GPU before this one and completely cleaned old driver remains with DDU?

There are so many variables that we do not know.

"getting a lot of freezes" can be because of litterally anything

psu brand/model/age?
It would be helpful if you posted all the specs and also be more specific about " freezing " . Is it during gaming or everywhere?
Thanks all! The gpu has never froze/crash in game. Only when surfing the net, doing things on the desktop or opening/closing steam. Crazy I know! Im pretty good with pcs, build my own/family. I just have never had this issue. The 7900 is about 10 days old now. At first not to many issue then bam it just went down hill the last 4-5 days.

Everything is up to date, I am a stickler for that. Any time I have a new driver I uninstall the old if apolitical and then reinstall. GPU drivers I always use DDU. PC stay clean from any dust (cant stand dirty).

When the freeze happens I have to shut down the pc from power button then reboot. After reboot its a toss of a coin of what I need to do. Sometimes its fine and everything working. Most time I have to uninstall/reinstall gpu driver to get back to normal. I have even had a warning popup thats say this driver is not compatible with this gpu. But I get all drivers from AMD site. I even reformatted HD . The crashing happens like every 2 to 3 mins.

My specs
17-13700 no OC
MB MSI z690 force wifi
ram 32gb 6600mhz
window 11
pso 1000w
HD samsunge 990 pro gaming
case lanli 216 high flow case
gpu was a msi 6900xt gaming x 16gb replaced with a saphire 7900xtx.

If you need anything else let me know. Sorry for my bad typing.
grab the latest drivers and update bios

again, what psu, brand/model/age
Owner of XFX MERC310 RX 7900 XTX with a high quality PSU in the Corsair HX1000 Platinum, so my question to TS is, what is the exact model of PSU are you using?

I think the new 24.6.1 driver is optimized for Ghost of Tsushima so you should try that.
I did update my hios to latest vers. Thoght I had that one.
the psu is around 18 to 24 month old.

resewill is neweggs house brand
they are not bad, but not great

be sure to use separate pci-e cables, not the chained ones
it has 3x pci-e power connectors, use all 3 cables from the psu

If it has never crashed during gaming (under actual loads) then it seems more unlikely that it's a GPU issue.

Have you checked you windows install?

Run the following commands in cmd

sfc/ VERIFYONLY or /SCANNOW

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

And even more importantly have you checked event viewer, if you can find out the error code of the event during the crash/freeze you'll be that more likely to definitively get to the root of the issue.
Maybe try installing the newest motherboard drivers as well.
Or maybe it's Intel instability issue that people are recently talking about?

EDIT: also try to disable integrated graphics on your CPU in case there is some conflict. AMD new drivers suppose to be able to combine the power of both for media decoding.

This is a great recommendation as there are a plethora of users using iGPU with dedicated causing issues.

Experiences are wonderful to pass along.
Wanted to give an update here. After updating bios and a few other things I gave the old girl one last try.It failed miserably! Same issue. I did get a sapphire tech reach out to me and said the gpu literal confused and send it back to newegg. I wont be getting another AMD card. Im looking at Nvidea 4080 super. Want to thank everyone who helped me.
