pc won't boot with 8 pin - 2x8 pin GPU splitter

[𝔗𝔥𝔦𝔫𝔤𝔲𝔰 𝔄𝔠𝔱𝔲𝔞𝔩𝔦𝔰]

My PSU has only one PCIE power cable 8+8 pin,but it's way too thick and I have to push it hard to close the case so I bought a 8 pin - 2x8 pin splitter and PC won't boot with it at all when I press the power button. After reconnecting PSU cable directly into GPU PC boots & normally. Is the splitter cable defective or I messed up something?
Edit: GPU is RTX 3060 with 8+6 pin connectors

Forgot to mention it's a 3060 with 8+6 pin connectors. I have no idea why they put extra 6 pin

For safety if it's not booting I would strongly advise against that splitter. Either it's not pinned correctly and it's causing a serious issue, or it's not capable of providing the demand thus protection features are often a thing.

Best to get the right PSU for the job, without the need for adapters. Adapters have some use, usually if they're outright capable from the port of the psu or things like powering fans, hdds/ssds etc.

3060 is 170w, 3060ti is 200w

pci-e 6+2pin = 150w, 6pin = 75w

they do not want the gpu to need to draw more power from the pci-e slot, which can deliver upto 75w, since not all oem boards follow that spec

Don't use splitters. Buy a PSU that has at least 2x 6+2 pin via two separate hardware-wired cables.

So if you have have 2x cables, each cable has 2x 6+2 on it; then use TWO CABLES; not one. That will give you 2x dedicated 8pin connections without sharing off of one cable.

Sounds to me like your PSU is junk and should be replaced; Gaming PC with something like 3060 and above, the PSU should have at a minimum, 2x Cables that supply a total of 4x 6+2 connections for GPU. If not, then get one.

If the side panel to GPU gap is that tight, then you might need an adapter so the GPU connectors do not stick straight out towards the side-panel. Sounds like that GPU is borderline of being too big for that PC Case.

In case someone finds this thread, the problem was in the cable. It was a cpu - pcie adapter, but for some reason neither the shop nor manufacturer wrote that in the specs. It was called simply a pcie splitter. My psu had some kind of short protection and didn't boot because of that (it thought I plugged gpu cable into cpu connector)

Your PSU should have 2x pin EPS and 4x 8pin PCIE. If not, get a better PSU. If it's that tight with such a small GPU then you need a larger Case

I'm on a tight budget rn so I can't get a psu with 2 pcie cables. Changed old one to a bequiet system power 550w which also has one cable.Should be enough for a 170w gpu

Hard to tell one from another unless you are an experienced pc builder which I am not obviously

It didn't. Just a tiny bit harder than plugging gpu cable into gpu

Anyways problem solved and now Im aware of double checking the cables before plugging the wrong one
